You could go next week and barely recognize they were hit.

The bay is so damn shallow it happens pretty much any time a storm hits east of it

Cape San Blas is my jam. Just so far. By that point I might as well get on a plane and head to Longboat Key or Kiawah.
I’ll probably buy a mountain house before a beach property. But I’d be looking in Perdido.

Andrew codes have clearly withstood the most devastating storms.

I love watching TWC looking for damage when everything along 98 & 30A has been constructed post-Andrew Florida codes.
They’re in Miramar and finding some lattice loose
Michael hitting Mexico Beach is basically the final panhandle storm that will have widespread damage.

Unscheduled maintenance
I hope this means orders by FAA due to some computer or installation issue (e.g. 737 MAX) and not any maintenance delay prompted by the Captain.

Would make sense. My parents have always said the eyewall of Fredric felt like a tornado.

Frederic was a rapidly intensifying high end Cat 3 as it made landfall on the eastern tip of Dauphin Island heading north/northwest with an eastern and northern eyewall driving storm surge the full length of Mobile Bay towards downtown Mobile.
Semantics but it made landfall on the western end. Eye went over grand bay. Bayou La Batre was destroyed.

Our most famous "export" is fried chicken. Of course, we are not going to innovate. Best we can do is bring in outside businesses.
You're making my point. The longer, more challenging route is to advance via innovation and research. Doesn't have to be silicon valley. It can be "fried chicken". But to that point, Canes had to relocate to satisfy its employment growth.
We still have an opportunity in industrial construction.

SpaceX is the outlier because they wanted a specific location - not the population base.
SpaceX, while massive. Is just another manufacturer. The technology will still be developed elsewhere.

Our population base is not attractive to any major industry looking to relocate.
Relocation is not the issue. It’s our inability to organically grow and innovate within an industry here. We have no problem being the manufacturing hub for many sectors. We have the problem being the innovation (and thus talent) hub for these sectors.

Historically, Louisiana has been run by a politically connected ruling class which has been satisfied with managing their own fiefdoms. As long as these fiefdoms are maintained financially and politically, they're satisfied.
This has been culturally solidified due to the minimal amount of turnover and migration that Louisiana sees (70%+ of residents are native-born). Which is why you get the comments of "Louisiana is poorly managed".
Minimal new innovation from the outside and protectionism result in a status-quo mindset. This has state-wide effects but can even been seen at the micro level in certain parishes & municipalities (i.e. "the Hebert Family has run this Parish for decades").
I've always summed this up in that the ruling class in Louisiana would rather control 100% of $9 for life than 10% of $100 with the opportunity to go to $200.
