I do not know enough about the nuances of all the countries and all the people of sub-saharan Africa to intelligently answer the question in depth. I think 99/100 people would say the majority of americans in general are better off than the majority of africans. I still don't believe you can then take the leap to say that means chattel slavery was the best thing to happen to those people. Look i understand how he's making the argument, it's not devoid of arithmetic but it's a pretty simplistic assumption of much more complex topics.
It just comes across as a white savior thing. "hey we enslaved you but at least we got you out of africa." Which paints america as good and africa as bad. While I agree that objectively America is better (generally speaking. I'm sure there may be some things that are good in Africa) but the reason Africa is in the shape it is now is because of European nations who carved it up willy nilly through colonialism and screwed it up for the past 300 years.
So europeans and americans screwed them over, screwed up their continent, but then in this argument we say good thing we enslaved your ancestors because now you live in a country with a higher GDP because we screwed up the continent you would have been on had we not done all that.
Theres just so much more to it than saying "it's the best thing that ever happened to you..."

Whether the authors intention was to negate the horrors of the atlantic slave trade/chattel slavery or not, the result is that they did. It's like saying the best thing to happen to Jews is the holocaust because they now have the state of Israel. It's insensitive at best and racist at worst.

As a white guy if i say he should have been guilty then i'm bias/tone deaf. If I say that he didn't get fair treatment because he is black then i'm denying the facts.
I believe that black Americans historically and even today face a different reality than whites in our justice system but I also believe this wasn't the case this time.

Youth Sports

I was at my 12 yr olds Volleyball tournament this weekend and I really enjoy watching her play a sport she loves. With that said, am I the only person who has to constantly talk to themselves and say "it's just a game this does not matter in the grand scheme"
I've watched the crazy videos in youth sports, and I am no where near those levels of insanity but I do get irrationally angry at missed calls, kids who make mistakes, etc etc.
I don't act out on these feelings but it's almost the feeling of watching LSU against Bama.

Not trolling but I would rather have had our awful season than continue the narrative that yall continued yesterday. LSU had an awful season, so what we have great history and a lot to look forward to…

Not being political just putting the real data out.
Since Port Arthur, until yesterday, there were 0 mass shootings in Australia. Gun related deaths had also continually gone down falling from 2.9 per 100,000 people in 1996 to approximately 0.9 per 100,000 in 2016 and 0.88 per 100,000 in 2018. ( Just an FYI Louisiana in 2023 had over 28 per 100,000)
Compare that to the US where just since 2015 to 2022 there was an average of 463 mass shootings per year (mass shooting defined as 4 or more deaths).
I don't think anyone is saying gun laws of any degree will create 0 gun related deaths but when you use Australia and the US as two case studies there are obvious conclusions to be drawn.

I had a student who's father was a very prominent preacher of a large church. Her family was obviously well off as evidence by the job but also their two high end brand new Mercedes. Nonetheless, the student filled out free/reduced lunch forms every year they were in my homeroom class.
