Memphis hoops fan, I know Toppert very well. Was the top recruiter on the staff. Helped land guys like Josh Minott (likely first round pick), Lester Quinones and more.
Very intelligent and cerebral guy offensively. Played a big part in helping Memphis improve in that area last season. Has NBA experience, spent time in the G-League and went the Suns. I believe Devin Booker and him are tight, he played a big role in his development.
Coach’s son that played hoops at Cornell, was a pretty good shooter. In short LSU got a good recruiter and tactician. I think he’ll be a HC one day.

You are right, that was 2017. In ‘19 they were still top
15, per football reference.

It’s funny. Moorehead wasn’t the OC in 2019 or ‘18, it was Ricky Rahne.
He had his best season with Rahne and a Co-OC. 11-2.. 41 ppg. Went 9-4 in ‘18 and averaged 34 PPG.

re: Napier’s not my first choice, but I’d take him in a heartbeat before Franklin.

Trace McSorley was a pretty good college QB. And for the Fickell crowd, are we going to just act like Cincy has a high flying offense?
Also Franklin has won 11 games 3x at PSU. Won a B10 title and has been to 3 NY6 bowls. What are we talking about?

Well for one Franklin is in a tier above Napier. Secondly, would be a home run hire.
Proven winner in the SEC and at a major institution. Top notch recruiter. Clifford isn’t great but there was a 4-year period where Penn State, on average was Top 15-20 in scoring including one year they averaged 41.7 a game.
Always fields a strong defense. Only tier above him is Saban, Smart, Dabo and maybe Riley and Ryan Day.

Well I’ve watched every game and he’s been a pretty good coach so far. Suspensions/injuries are (mostly) out of his control. The city has been happy with his tenure I’ll tell you that. LSU will be fine, Memphis will be good.

Let the hate flow through you.

Memphian here. Huge LSU football fan by the way. I’m sure there was some merit to all the smoke about Cisse heading to LSU, but I never thought he was a lock.
He spends most of his free time around Memphis players and the familiarity is something that mattered to him. As someone else said the pandemic keeping him in Memphis even longer only helped us.
Memphis will be fine without Miller. Penny is the draw not MM.

No you're just talking out of your arse. Memphis kids hardly struggle to qualify they just like going to your other SEC rivals, I only remember a few instances in the past few years for a city that produces dozen of D-I guys per class.
In fact every Memphis kid on your roster went to a private school or a top notch public. Kids from Whitehaven/White Station/Ridgeway don't struggle to qualify either, never understand why they go play for you guys.

No, but we're not a near lock like an Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma etc. Gotta beat Bama or go 11-0 outside of that, both will be tough.

I could be in the minority, but I think we'd have made the playoffs or be close to a lock to make it with Herman this year. That's more so about the talent LSU already had on the roster and who we'd be able to attract.

Egos will probably be the most challenging thing for Penny, I agree. Tyler just has to consider playing a vital role, but maybe not starting for a contender or trying to get a bunch of PT at MTSU or UT-Chat or whatever. I think/hope he'll see it through.

No problem, Memphis is my hometown and for most of my life only the hoops team was worth following. It's been nice to see the football team get its act together.
As for LSU, the Bluegrass miracle is the first CFB game I can remember (I was 8 at the time) and after that magic I've rooted for the Tigers FB team ever since. Memphis FB/LSU BB are cool teams, definitely don't root against them, but the emotional investment for the other two is just in a different stratosphere.

Memphis hoops fan, LSU football fan here. First thing is, the only guys that should be gone after next year are James Wiseman and Precious Achiuwa (if we land him).
Secondly, it'll be hard for this year to be a disappointment. We haven't been to the tournament in 5-6 years I believe, if Memphis makes it to the second weekend of the tourney that's a successful year for Penny who did a fine job this year with barebones talent.
