Good buddy has a camp in the Atchafalaya basin, several miles from the boat launch. The skeeters are almost unbearable at night. You don’t linger outside of the screened in porch.

Worse I’ve seen in America
Alpena has a good shipwreck museum as well and glass bottom shipwreck tours. Austin Brothers brewery has good food and beer. Nowicki’s brats.

Fudge if you like sweets, Koegels Veinnas and summer sausage. Koegels Garlic pickled bologna.

Stop in pinconning and get cheese if you are on the East side of the state.

Used a Kelty hiking back for years. Packed butchered animals out with it as well.

Got a Badlands 2200 now and love it.

Any good hiking or hunting bag will work.
Normally we pack sandwhiches and snacks in a backpack and ride in on the metro. Last time I was up we went and ate at a few places in Old Alexandria that were all good. One was a korean noodle type hole in the wall; don't remember the name.
I am not eating raw oysters in this summer heat.

That being said, Willie's has good seafood minus the oysters. They have a patio area so I would think they are dog friendly.
Coleman suitcase stoves are perfect IMHO.
Try French Market if you like community.
Vieux Carre is my favorite and Streetcar is also good.
National Air and Space museum will be enjoyed much more by kids vs. the American History Smithsonian.

Has their quality imporoved? I have not been in a few years after back 2 back lunches with very average food.
About 10 years back I was at Attakapas landing and a 16ft bateau with a tiller handle putt putted down that canal with an old married couple, two beagles, and a big ole' coon on the bow like George Washington crossing the Delaware.
She will be fine at Tony's. They almost always have cops/security guards in the parking lot. Never had any issues.

Just tell her not to stop anywhere else within a couple of miles of Tony's
1.5 or less is perfect IMHO.
Driving 3 hours each way and then cleaning salt of the boat is not worth it to me.
Damn that thing is pretty serious! Hope you have a big ole' pican tree in the yard to keep that thing going.

Make sure you see Fern Canyon (where they filmed Ewok) scenes in the OG Star Wars.

On road trips stop at rest areas and let them ride a bike or run around. Lots of states have big rest areas with lots of trees and areas to run and play.

Make room for a scooter, bike, glider bike in your car. It will be worth it to tire them out make them happy.
I-12 from Slidell to Baton Rouge is pretty bad. Almost always really bad wrecks. People drive like crackheads.
