Kevin probably gave them an ultimatum. Get me better players or trade me. Only problem is they can’t get better players because of their top loaded roster lol

Right but Barrett has multiple years left. His deal is not good at all.

We don’t need to take RJ back.

If Toronto is actually interested, then they want to win games.

They can take Ingram and Theis or JRE, and send the Pels Bruce Brown and Chris Boucher along with a First maybe more.

This keeps both teams out of the tax and keeps Toronto in roster compliance since they would have an extra roster spot open.

Now we could also do this deal by taking Olinyk back instead of Boucher. His money would still be on the books next year, but it would give us another option at the 5 who can space the court.
If we are getting a pick and expiring contracts back, then it’s worth it.

You would have to assume that Middleton would be going out in this trade.

I’m sure Wizards are looking for somewhere else for him to go though. He would most certainly opt in next year, since Wizards aren’t likely to extend him.

I’ve told you already. There is no let him walk. We can do a S&T in the offseason and get just a 1st easily.

Why would we want to purposely put ourselves into the tax next year by facilitating a sign and trade? And also, why would another team give up anything of value in that deal. You would only be taking back a bad contract that would count against our cap.

We are trying to shed salary for next year. If we think our potential future lineup is already on the team outside of BI and CJ, then why handcuff yourself with more unwanted salary?
Well either you resign him or let him walk….you aren’t getting much better for Ingram.

And BI's shot chart was just fine to start this year.

He was shooting more 3s, but his attempts at the rim were sacrificed. He could be so much better if he moved without the ball better. Yes he is shooting more threes, but he was still initiating most of those shots.

Maybe that was because he wasn’t playing with Murray, but at this point it doesn’t really matter. We can’t afford to make that investment unless the organization decides they will pay the tax.

It seems like they have made their decision anyway, and they are going to move on from Ingram. I think we would have some sort of notion otherwise by now. His injury certainly hasn’t helped things, but I think we won’t see Ingram play again as a starter for the Pels.
Scorched Earth…I don’t see Miami breaking first for a bad return.
Also, let’s say he takes a “team friendly” deal for an average of $40mil per year…even if you trade CJ, you have to take salary back and you are deeply into the apron.

The roster just doesn’t work with Zion and Ingram. Is Herb or Trey coming off the bench in this scenario? You still aren’t good enough in your front court rotation. Missi and Zion have not been a good fit so far in games they have played, and even though Brandon started shooting more 3s out of necessity to start the year his shot profile still left a lot to be desired.

Do you realize how stupid this makes you look?

What team besides the Nets can give him a contract paying him more than $30 plus mil/year?

I like Ingram, but it just doesn’t make sense to bring him back at what he wants. We probably aren’t a top 6 seed in the west next year, so why would the organization risk going into the tax to re-sign him.

There are no options for Ingram to sign the contract he wants except us, and it would be “stupid” to try and facilitate a sign and trade to make that happen for him.

Come on bro…I’m not talking nonsense here.

Brandon gets traded to a contender by the deadline for expirings and minor draft compensation, or we let him walk in the offseason.
Only way he signs a contract anywhere close to that much would be with our help…I just don’t see us taking back the necessary salary to facilitate a sign and trade.

Brandon is destined to sign any MLE deal with a good team….
So if they make a smaller deal in addition to this it would work?
According to the new Fanspo update, this trade doesn’t work financially…

Detroit has to send out 9.6mil more.

to think he'll get $25M, or the MLE is just a clueless and silly bias thing to say.

If it were any other year I would agree.

But we are the only team that could pay him that much. And I don’t see us looking to facilitate a sign & trade where we have to take back that extra salary. We likely wouldn’t be getting back any decent players, and we wouldn’t have room under the tax to take them back anyway.

It’s more likely we just let him walk in the offseason rather than facilitate a sign & trade.

So unless someone is expecting to sign him to a near max deal they aren’t going to give up much beyond an end of the season rental for a contender.
I really don’t think he will get that on his next contract either.

If he gets traded somewhere this year, it will be as a rental to a good team.

I don’t expect him to have a market next season, and he will likely have to sign for the MLE or possibly a 1 and 1 deal with a player option if that team has enough space to fit him.
Would have to think the facilitating team would be someone like the Jazz.

Milwaukee was the favorite to land CJ a while back.
