for Lane Kiffin to coach OM in playoffs and take LSU job now.
AT is a skilled GM and can handle roster, portal and NIL details.
FW can handle day to day recruiting (as he has). Recruits will know that Lane will be the coach. Lane will have a blue phone for playoff duties and a gold phone for Tiger calls. He wants to win for OM now and LSU in 2026 and beyond. OM can hire the new guy to worry about 2026 and beyond without worrying about playoffs.
CR gives you continuity on defense and DBU cred, FW continuity on offense and Louisiana cred .
Lane has been shopping portal for OM already, recruiting already so he is just changing hats.
Lane winning a natty at OM with an LSU contract is still good for LSU (and OM)
If Lane chooses to keep Baker, we save buyout $, and defensive evaluation and acquisitions won’t skip a beat.

re: Knee Replacement Surgery ?
Posted by bigsabanfan on 11/25/25 at 1:57 am to MWP
I am currently 58, but had both knees replaced when I was 55. My right knee was bad for 15 years, and my left knee went bad 2 years before surgery. My limp turned to a waddle, and it was terrible on my back. I chose to do both knees at the same time. I could not imagine rehabbing one with the other one continuing to hurt. It was the perfect choice for me. I was in bad shape when I had my surgery. I had been very inactive for the previous 2 years, moving as little as I had to. Sounds like you are in good shape, and that will make rehab much better! (I have lost 60 lbs since surgery)
It took me 16 days to recover from the surgery - get off the meds. I did about 2 months of PT. It gets noticeably better pretty quickly and then continues to get better for the next 2 years.
If you have been squatting recently, you will probably have a lot easier time. I had not squatted down to pick anything up for years. I just bent at my back. The slowest part of my recovery was building muscle strength in my legs and training myself to bend my knees and not bend over. I don't run, but I enjoy walking. My doctor said I can play tennis and golf. No jumping rope, running or snow skiing.
Here's what I think is most important:
1. Get your mind right. It's worth it. Follow the rules, and all the effort you put into rehab will pay dividends pretty quickly. It hurts, but it gets better. Take the meds early on to get over the surgery pain.
2. ICE - ICE - ICE Ice is amazing when the meds slack off. I had the velcro ice packs, but in hindsight, the ice machine would have been amazing.
3. Move as they tell you to. Early and often. Attack the rehab. Follow the plan, and it gets better quickly. Be patient but diligent. Don't skip, but don't try to push ahead of schedule.
4. Don't fall. I used the walker until my doc told me I didn't need to anymore. Patience and planning early avoids falling. You don't want to open your stitches and risk infection.
5. I slept in a recliner early on. The meds interrupted my normal sleep pattern, and it is important to sleep with your legs straight. Getting up from a low seat or down from a high bed is a challenge early on (especially with both knees)
6. Sweat pants and slip-on shoes are nice early on.
7. Write out your med schedule and movement plans. It helps whoever is assisting you stay on your schedule, and it helps you stay on schedule while you are medicated. Early on, I slept in 3-4 hour spurts because of the meds. You don't want to miss meds early on. While medicated, it gets fuzzy to remember how long it has been since you walked, moved, or stretched. Write it down and check it off. I used a poster board to keep track of everything.
I would imagine that doing one knee at a time, the rehab will go a little faster each time.
The only thing I don't like to do now is kneel down on a hard surface (concrete or carpet floor). I kneel on good cushions at church, and kneeling on a comfortable bed is good.
I have more flexibility now than before surgery. Both knees have full flexibility. I don't see daily or weekly improvement anymore, but my knees are better at year 3 than they were at year 2, and year 2 was pretty darn good!
You might give up a few things, but the pain will be gone, and there will be plenty of good things left to do without pain!
PS: You will not pass through metal detectors anymore.

Road Trip ~ Headed to Bama. Suggestions?
Posted by bigsabanfan on 11/3/25 at 12:59 pm
Headed to Tuscaloosa for the game this weekend. Route to T-town looks boring and looking for recommendations from experienced Tigers that have made the trip in the past. Any recommendations on things to do on the way up or when we arrive? Any suggestions on things to avoid?
I’m expecting a better effort and game plan post BK/Sloan. Plan on having fun and enjoying the trip. Hard to believe only 4 regular season games left.

The amount of weed smoking on campus for gameday is out of control! USCe game was especially bad. For me, nothing ruins a beautiful gameday walk through campus than the constant skunk smell. It seems an easy situation to address by the campus police.
I also wish they could do something about the vaping in the stadium during the game.
re: Brian Kelly wants a law to ban pre-6 PM games at Tiger Stadium in September
Posted by bigsabanfan on 9/26/24 at 9:24 pm to Turnblad85
It should probably be a ban on day games (prior to 6 pm start) in Tiger Stadiums until after Halloween. There is a legitimate safety concern coupled with the legendary night game experience in Tiger Stadium that almost makes it a no-brainer type decision. It's actually an advantage for our opponents to play in cooler temperatures. Plenty of teams in northern climates enjoy (prefer) day games. Similar to white jerseys at home and the H goalpost, there won't be many folks who will argue against it.
Any Opinions on Cox Gigablast Internet Service?

I’ve seen the commercials and done a little looking online but I am wondering if anyone has first hand experience with gigablast. Is it worth an additional $30?

Not only is he a good looking tiger, he is active and playful. He really seems to enjoy attention from his visitors. He is fun to visit and a great live mascot to represent LSU.
How do you think Auburn feels about Steele/Craig swap?
Posted by bigsabanfan on 6/30/16 at 8:57 am
I find it humorous that most LSU fans were relieved when Steele departed but just a little embarrassed it was to a division rival for a second year in a row. Once Aranda was hired the faithful rejoiced and was pretty unanimous in their approval. Without a doubt LSU ended up with an upgrade at DC. Finding out that Steele's brother works in the AU athletic department and that the Alabama state retirement system factored into the equation made Steele's departure even more palatable. In the football world, especially with recruits, LSU upgraded the position with a consensus "Top 10" hire. Our biggest concern will be how long can we keep him before he is offered a head coaching job somewhere.
When our receivers coach departed I don't think there was a big concern amungst the fan base. Hiring Craig from AU was a surprise because he is an AU favorite son and had just pulled in a remarkable WR class for them. Again, very much an upgrade for us - especially as a recruiter. (Assisting with QBs is a nice bonus). When Craig threw out the "not a lateral move" line it was icing on the cake/salt in the wound depending on which side of the fence you are on.
So far, Aranda has had been a positive influence on recruiting simply based on his reputation as a defensive genius and his scheme. There is no doubt that Craig has been a positive influence on recruiting with 3 top 30 WR commits since his hire.
As an LSU fan I am happy with the "trade". Wonder how it is viewed on the plains?

re: Chavis: One year later
Posted by bigsabanfan on 1/29/16 at 9:18 am to bigsabanfan
No doubt Chavis is top notch DC. He has proven it with his time in the SEC at TN/LSU. He can coordinate a defense and coach up talent. It is highly questionable if he has the skills or drive to recruit to the level necessary to compete in the SEC in the day of the 3 year players. His LB and DL depth was razor thin when he departed. There is something to his "third and Chavis" reputation and he did not fair well against Bama late in tight games. He could shut down ATM but, then again, so could Steele.
No doubt the "Les Clause" in his contract was the major motivation to leave - a financial decision. I don't think he took the high road on the way out. The defense was not ready for ND and he was on the phone with his new boss moments/hours before the game - that is not championship focus. He did not ride on the team charter home, went straight to work for ATM and made unnecessary comments about LSU's offense if his real motivation was to leave for financial security. I would have been impressed if he would have said, " loved my time at LSU but had to do what is best for my family".
He did a nice job of improving the ATM D, though not tough to do with the dumpster fire of a defense that existed in the recent seasons. I think the ATM expectations were more of a dominant defense not just better. (Similar to the expectations for the AU defense with Mushchamp).
I find it humorous to look back to see who ended up happier a year later. The ATM offense tanked AND THEN lost two 5* QBs. Miles almost getting fired made Chavis ALMOST look like a genius. Aranda's hire has to sting a bit. Maybe Chavis should switch to Aranda's agent. Aranda now has the deal that Chavis wanted with a loaded talent base and a quality recruiting/coaching staff.
This is probably a win/win. ATM made a good hire. Chavis got his deal/money. LSU ends up with a young, aggressive coach with a bright future. All in al,l I am pleased with how it worked out for LSU.

Chavis: One year later
Posted by bigsabanfan on 1/28/16 at 12:44 pm
Nobody was happy with they way Chavis left. Not many folks were inspired by the Steele hire (especially, without Coach O in tow). ATM's offense did not perform like Chavis expected and he was not able to turn around ATM's defense like ATM expected. Throw in the QB chaos and the lackluster recruiting and Chavis can't feel like he got what he was moving for. LSU beats ATM even without Chief running the D. LSU's D did ok but not up to expectations.
One year later Steele departs on his own and Miles hires Aranda. Now LSU has the hottest DC in the land to go along with a load of experienced talent and a remarkable recruiting class.
LSU ends up upgrading its defense and ATM flushes away two 5 star QBs.
Can't imagine this is what Chavis expected while he was planning his departure instead of preparing for Notre Dame. It is a shame that Chavis' call cost the pool boy his job.
