Yes absolutely

The Achilles heel with this lsu squad is Van Lith. Men or women tourney pls I’d about guard play. Van Lith has proven to be an undersized two guard. Walz at Louisville knew what he was doing by not having her play point.

I ran D1 track in the 80's and Arkansas is a good standard never to be replicated.
re: Prayers for LSU’s Last Tear Poa

This young woman is from Australia and doesn't have family here. One can be confident LSU will take care of her, but the team's stars need to step up and watch out for her. In a game against Auburn, I saw Ms Poa about as exhausted as a player can be, so she is a tough player and I hope she comes through.

Great coach. Reese having issues with being a solid teammate. As Mulkey indicated, a locker room issue. Reese can earn her way back in, but must earn it. LSU did play well as a team without Reese, but down the line could use her talents. I note she was benched for throwing up a 3 point shot 10 seconds into the possession. Mulkey is way too good of a coach to limit Reese on 3 pointers, but they need to be in the flow of the offense. If an open 3 pointer with 5 seconds on the shot clock is necessary, Mulkey surely would accept while beseeching the team to perhaps get a better shot, but that shot would be on the flow of a team offense. Van Lith needs to be a better passer, but she knows it and is not defensive - attitude matters and Van Lith knows the value of her coach. Reese has quirky game - reminds me of Cedric Maxwell of the Celtics years ago and her talent shines through even though the weird shots take some getting used to. My guess is that Reese will be better for this.

EKG has nailed it. The initial payment will be paid by the Foundation, with later payouts intended to be paid by the athletic department. I would guess the Foundation may step in and pay some payments again.

Track guys at Oregon (one of the best in the nation - although no one will ever accomplish what Arkansas had done) and Washington (8 guys under 4 minutes for a mile this year) are worried. Travel to the east is not easy and takes time. No rivalries or fast races at Stanford either. Query whether track will in five years become only viable at the schools with the top 25 football programs. Rest assured Arkansas will be one of the them. I get many don't like track, but McDonnell brought guys in who were not D1 quality athletes as walk-ons and made them NCAA champions (he had great recruited guys too). That legacy won't go away - I ran against Arkansas at Penn Relays - got dusted despite running a top 10 time. Much respect.

Bahamian prisons are no joke. Conditions are very rough and the very nature of her alleged crime means alienation from her family. Not sure I have sympathy but if she was going to do this she should have found a way to do it in the YS.

I lived in Omaha in the early 80’s and went to the CWS twice. I don’t recall a game where the ball just isn’t getting any distance. Some of the balls which are well hit are well short of the warning track. Yes, the pitchers are great but just a dead ball evening
re: Stetson Bennett 18/25 304 yards 6 Total TDs
Posted by Willowglen on 1/9/23 at 9:23 pm
Bennett is far more talented than his game manager label indicates. His receivers are bigger and stronger than TCU's, and he has a good line in front of him, but he makes throws into tight windows consistently.
re: Where are all the TCU dick riders now?

No surprise at Georgia winning. But this game isn't remotely competitive. That is a bit surprising.
re: Tennessee 31 @ Clemson 14 Final - ESPN
Posted by Willowglen on 12/30/22 at 7:26 pm
Coaching is suspect this year for Clemson. They play in such a weak league, they would have been undefeated but for starting a non Division 1 level qb all year. The fake field goal is just another bad coaching look.
re: SEC Rant changed to Vitello Rant?
Posted by Willowglen on 6/23/22 at 10:13 pm
I just finished watching the SEC Network's documentary on Tameka Catchings. Vitello`s squad does Tennessee no favors in terms of reputation, with no question that they do make things interesting though. Catchings makes Tennessee look great. Her respect for Pat, her great foundation which supports kids, her winning smile and her success in overcoming speech and hearing impediments made me think much more highly of Tennessee than prior to watching. Of course, I then think of the clown show their football squad has been in the last 15 years and I snap back top reality. The documentary made me laugh in a way as there is no need to engage of Champions of Life drivel when you see the real thing like Catchings. By the way, Ole Miss just shows how great the SEC in baseball. Arkansas' performance did too - the baseball gods just had the hogs run into a great pitching performance.

I just returned from New York on a business trip. There is actually a watering hole/bar on 44th Street near 2nd Avenue.A and M flags out front and yell leader photos and other similar photos inside. I stepped in, and the bar guy asked me if I was from Texas. I said no, but was fascinated why this place was three blocks from the UN. He said the owner is an Aggie, and the place hops in the fall. He did say they had some world series traffic. The SEC travels.
re: Congrats to Florida on winning the 2022 NCAA outdoor track and field championship (men)
Posted by Willowglen on 6/11/22 at 2:01 am
My brother and I were both Division 1 NCAA finalists in the 80's. We were competitive, but knew we couldn't touch John McDonnell's incomparable Arkansas teams. They were better because they were the most disciplined and focused group around. Kudos to Florida who won this year with sprinters, but Arkansas won with virtually all disciplines. Arkansas cares about track, frankly something most schools do not. Arkansas' AD needs to step up and really look at leadership of the track program. This is meant out of respect for the school with the best legacy imaginable in the sport.
re: Tennessee wins SEC Championships in Baseball, Basketball and Soccer

Arkansas just won yet another SEC track championship, continuing the legacy of the incomparable John McDonnell. Texas A and M catches a lot of flak here, but every year they have national and world class track athletes, making Arkansas' achievements even more impressive. I recognize track is not all that popular, but with teams like Arkansas, LSU, A and M, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia and Ole Miss the SEC is far and away the best in the nation. To give an example, the top two teams in the ,4 x 4 broke three minutes. There are only a handful of national teams in the world that can break 3 minutes! Some of the national level athletes were not highly recruited, showing that the SEC develops talent as well. 40 years ago I scored several times in the ACC. Even then, the SEC was better. Much respect.
re: Why is Texas so embarrassingly bad???
Posted by Willowglen on 9/12/21 at 5:22 pm
I heard a theory on a talk show that the high ranked Texas players they recruit play such an advanced state of high school football that their ceilings in college are lower than expected. Interesting point but tough to prove
re: I've seen everything I need to see, LSU is going down

This game is difficult to benchmark in terms of assessing how good UCLA may be. Hawaii's tackling and defense is along the lines of Connecticut's three years ago, where UConn was starting players who were barely above good high school levels.
re: Tennessee fans you better hope Heupel does better than Frost.
Posted by Willowglen on 8/28/21 at 4:27 pm
Nebraska is a poorly coached team. And even worse, they have no speed at skill positions, and an uninspired offensive line. Illinois is at best mediocre in terms of talent but Bielema coached them well. You could tell Illinois would win simply because they were not going to commit turnovers or make dumb plays. From a spectator standpoint, the game was difficult to watch.
re: Richmond handing KENTUCKY its arse

Jay Bilas hit the nail on the head commenting on the Arizona State - Villanova game. He said that ASU was on paper longer and perhaps a bit quicker (Hurley can recruit), but that Villanove was superior because they played "older" - meaning good team defense, good shot selection, and a feel for dominating the game. I am not sure Kentucky could take the Villanova approach as the school is stuck with one and done's (and they get great talent), but Villanova shows what great coaching along with pretty good talent can do.
