They went to camp for training, and were trained soldiers just like the all the rest. Definitely a smaller percentage but you can bet some of the Confederate Army's soldiers were foreign-born immigrants. Primarily consisting of Irish, English, German , along with Mexican Texans and Hispanics.
They were much better supplied and about 25% of the total 2 million+ that served on the Federal side were immigrants. About 9% in the Southern army. At the end the North had somewhere closer to 1 million active, The Confederacy something like 200k.
Just expressing my southern pride in a whimsical way. I think I saw somewhere Jubal Early was the author of that statement.

The yanks with their limitless resources were fortunate to be fighting men with bare bleeding feet that were nearly starved to death.
The south never really lost…just wore themselves out whipping the Yankees.

Cocodrie used to be full of them. Probably still is.
Pee Wee football…. I chased the opposing teams running back out of bounds…..then weaved through cars all the way across the parking lot, circled around the nearest school building and despite 100 hollering parents, made a couple laps around the playground before I finally made the made the tackle.
A pack of walker hounds will become a hot commodity
Moved to Ky and one thing I don’t like is paying property tax on things that were paid for long ago. For example: 250$ property tax this year for a 10 year old truck.
FIL used to farm it and I have had the privilege of being in on some the field work and harvest process here in central Ky. Not too many folks grow it around here anymore, at least not like 20 years ago.
Went to Black’s last year, while down there to see a doctor. Atmosphere was good. Was not impressed much with the brisket. At least I use seasoning when I smoke them at home.
Don’t have to worry about that stuff, my kids go to school sitting at our kitchen table.
That’s what I am hearing as well. It was rough for sure.
Bad mess here in Northern Evangeline parish. Trees/limbs, roof damage, vehicle damage, and two sheds of ours are gone. Neighbors tractor shed flew 100 yards and was standing on our driveway.

There’s big one just south of Monroe, La. On US 165.
Eye sore would be an understatement.

Have several ancestors that rest in the Roberts Cemetery in Amite Co.
