I hope Dabo is in no position to say, "No."
Something about perpetual motion and cold fusion.

It's all very advanced.

Really, in these particular countires--until we decided to start a land war in Asia, at least--they kind of followed Islam (mainly with regard to customs, like marriage, food, praying five times per day, and all of the colloquial Islamic sayings that are a part of Islamic culture) mixed with animism. They were far from fundamentalists, and other religions openly existed. Things are different and much less tolerant by the locals now, although the governments still welcome any and all religions as that's where a large portion of their aid comes from.

We were in the Sahara and Sahel, so there really wasn't any typical safari stuff. I got very close to some giraffe and even closer to some hippos in a canoe-gondola hybrid. We paid a guy $6 to take us up the river to see some hippos in the leaky watercraft that he used pieces of cotton to patch up along the way, and we got a little too close for comfort.
That was an odd second half in general. I think the us against the world mentality that the coaches were drilling into the players may have gotten into their own heads. There were several times when I expected Saban to take care of the pass interference issues, but when I saw what looked like, "We aren't calling pushoffs," mouthed by a ref to Saban and noticed that Saban just walked off rather than asking to speak with the head ref, I didn't feel like we had the usual attitude of imposing our will on all aspects of the game.
This is just as pathetic as the Bama fans who are saying the refs favored Clemson because they were Clemson. I think they favored them because they come from the pantywaist Big 12 and offense is all they know.

One of my Facebook friends shared this as a joke. The guy on the left and the guy on the right don't really even favor that much, to me.

I will say that I just wish refs called games the same nationwide. I don't think they were against us at all, but I do think they favored the "powerhouse" offense because that's what they know.

Big time language barrier. The native language is considered extinct. I had an interpreter, though.

As far as nomadic life being sustainable, I guess it depends on your view of "life." It doesn't resemble the modern lifestyle at all. One individual--the chief--in the entire tribe owned a vehicle, for example. I feel like with ever increasing concerns about borders related the threat of terrorist groups, the lifestyle will continue to fade away. It's hard for nomads to avoid crossing borders and still be nomadic.

That's actually almost exactly what we did...except this people group was nomadic, so we moved around with them during the last part of the rainy season and the first part of the dry season so we could figure out where water collected and map out possible locations for freshwater wells. We were pretty much the first Westerners a vast majority of these people had encountered. We didn't do any open proselytizing; that was supposed to come much later. We just tried to live by example. Unfortunately, a lot of unrest in the area has made things very difficult on almost all humanitarian efforts.

Plasmodium Vivax. Had to take several courses of Mefloquine and Primaquine for several years after I returned.

Well then I should definitely be in, because I spent the Summer of 2003 in West Africa winning souls for Jesus. Or at least trying. I can submit proof of that, too.

Thanks. I guess I'd just like a "Yes," "No," or "Go to Hell." I'm curious as to how there are rival posters on the Alabama board...

None. We don't have those kinds of gimmicks.

Haha. Because this is the only website where an "alter" exists? Lol...

Seriously...I'm not an alter. I've never posted on this website. I've actually only ever posted on Scout. Someone else with a similar username posted on another heavily moderated Bama website (where the mods claim to have inside knowledge but clearly don't), but I've never registered for that one.

Evidently I have to commit my first born son to the Mods or something?

No seriously...I get a message that it's a private forum. I click the button to apply for access. I write in the text box that I'm and alum and have lurked for a while but have just now started posted. And then...um...crickets.

How the heck do I get approved to post on the Alabama Forum? I've been a member since October and I've applied to post on the forum, but I've never been approved.

It's a bit ridiculous...I graduated from UA in 2006; I have the diploma and ring to prove it. Is there some place I'm supposed to submit my official transcript?
