I see your point, but something tells me they wouldn’t cut him loose so quickly without knowing they can get out of the contract. If they we not sure, they would have taken their time and let the two weeks play out. ...

Absolutely. Even if you were able to remove the spear head, walking would have been next to impossible and infection was not a possibility, but a certainty. Not a good way to go. ...
