Nepo Kiffin is coming

Fify
Kiffin may want continue to drag out this "decision". If Ole Miss wins the Egg Bowl, Texas beats A&M at home, and the Crimson Tide goes to Auburn for the Iron Bowl and loses late Saturday night, then Ole Miss historically makes their 1st SEC championship game appearance the following weekend. Does Kiffin leave his team high and dry the week before possibly competing for their 1st conference championship in over 50 years?

‘25 Coaching Carnage

In addition to LSU, UF, Ole Miss, Arky, Auburn Penn St, we could hypothetically have:

FSU: If they lose the rivalry game in Gainesville next week, they would finish 5-7. My FSU friends said they would be shocked if they kept Norvel.

Texas: If UT survives this week against Arky, they then have A&M at home. If they were to lose, or especially were to be blown out (like A&M did to us), they could run Sark off.

Ohio St: If you know any OSU fans, they would 1000% rather beat Michigan than win a national championship. If Day loses in Ann Arbor for the 5th straight year, they could fire Day, even at 11-1, and defending national champs.
After observing Lane Kiffin’s career over the last 20 years I don’t think it would shock anyone if he flirted with LSU during a UM playoff run, only to stay at UM or bolt to another program or NFL at the last hour. This cenario is only made more likely when you mix in that fact that his agent is Jimmy Sexton. As such, I hope our admin is conducting a legitimate search and vetting other candidates. Specifically, we should be speaking to other coaches that have coached above and below each candidate, as well as current and former players that play/played for him. The essence of what we need in a coach is a tireless worker, obsessed with attention to detail and winning football games, a la, Nick Saban. To go for the “shinniest”, and most expensive, object on the shelf just because you can, doesn’t mean that you should.

Yes, Kiffin is a good coach, and LSU could do a lot worse. I think I’m just tired of not having a normal/likeable coach at LSU. Miles had trouble forming coherent sentences, while Orgeron had trouble with the English language. Then came Kelly, whom I don’t know if anyone liked, so much so that he reportedly had to use a PR firm this last offseason in order to try and improve his image. Then you bring in Kiffin with his awkward whiny drivel. I have seriously wondered if Lane Kiffin is on the Asperger’s/autism spectrum. You have UM fans calling him narcissitic now as well. I watched the ESPN documentary and at the end he talks about trying to change to not make everything about him. Yet, here we are, in the middle of a UM playoff run and he is apparently in deep talks about jumping ship again to another program. He quit on Bama and Saban in 2017 and I don’t think he would lose any sleep over dropping UM to cash a bigger paycheck and go chase bimbos in a bigger city. The guy is still dropping petty tweets, trolling people, and trash talking opposing players on a weekly basis. Do you really want a coach that takes literally 50 years to “mature”.

Are we really going to reset the coaching salary market over the guy who lost to Brian Kelly last year and couldn’t make a 12 team playoff with a loaded roster, including a starting NFL QB? Kiffin has been a power 4/5 head coach for 10 years now and he has 0 conference championships and 0 playoff appearances. People keep saying that Kiffin would be unstoppable with LSU’s talent, but since Kiffin has been at Ole Miss they have put 6 offensive skill players on active rosters in the NFL comprared to 5 from LSU. At the end of the day, coaches will tell you that it’s more about the Jimmies and Joes than the X’s and O’s. If Kiffin doesn’t have good players, just like any coach, he’s not going to win football games. I would like to see LSU spend less on the head coach and put that money towards aquiring better personnel. Heck, we won national championships with Les Miles and Ed Orgeron, neither of which are known for being brilliant schematic minds. UM is currently ranked #6 nationally in this week’s poll, guess who is #7, Texas Tech, who’s coached by a guy named Joey McGuire who coached HS football for 21 years. If you like Kiffin’s offense, just have our new coach hire Charlie Weis Jr for OC, who has learned Kiffin’s system.

When Lane Kiffin was a 34 year old adult and the head coach at UT, he was able to flip blue chip recruit Janzen Jackson from LSU. The rub was that Kiffin instructed Jackson to stay silent about it until national signing day, so that LSU would not only lose out on Jackson, but they wouldn’t have time to find a replacement. What am I doing if I am LSU now in 2025? I am 110% pressing Kiffin’s people, making it very clear that we would make him the highest paid coach in the game. We are already starting to catch wind of UM brass and fans calling him out for flirting around with other programs, so ideally he starts burning bridges with Ole Miss so that they basically kick him out. Then, I am “Janzen Jacksoning” Kiffin by informing him that we decided to go in a different direction. Ole Miss will remain a permanent rival with the new SEC schedule format, and this is a great opportunity to weaken a rival. After all, they very well may be trying to do the same thing to us. At the least, if we can cause UM to have to overextend a bit financially to keep Kiffin, that may mean they fall short for a player or two in the portal each year.

If you’ve read this far, you are asking well if it isn’t Kiffin, then who? My current wish, is that they go through a deep vetting process mentioned above on: Dillingham, Riley, Key, Stein, Morris, Golesh, Sumrall, Golding, Minter, and Monken. Find the best fit.

Mission trip recs

Posted by SlickG on 11/14/21 at 11:54 am
I'm looking for recs for reputable organizations to go on an international mission trip with. Ideally, it would be with a local organization. I'm in southeast Louisiana, but if there is a solid national organization that others have had good experiences with, I'd consider that too. I am in the medical field so it could be medical, however I'm open to other types of outreach, i.e. construction. My first choice destination would be somewhere in Africa, but certainly open to other places.

If you want the absolute best in the world at online training, contact Luke Leaman at muscle nerds, nick Mitchell at ultimate performance London, Diane McDonald at clean health Sydney Australia, Wolfgang unsold in Germany, Marty Williams at shredded strength in Perth Australia. These would be the absolute best in the work imo, but you will pay a pretty good premium to work with them or someone that works under them. Personally Luke Leaman does all my programs.

My man! Looks legit, thanks! Also, I just came across an online meal prep company called Nutrition Solutions. They have a special meal plan to help gain muscle. Do you, or anyone have any experience/recs for online or local meal prep companies?

Of course I don't eat fast foot and pizza every meal. I eat a lot of meat, but I have been experimenting with supplementing some higher fat (calorie) foods to see if I could gain even some lard, but no luck. I don't like eating unhealthy foods, but I have been willing to sacrifice for the proverbial gains. Do you think the fat in my diet is inhibiting my protein absorption? Do you advocate I stick to the steamed chicken breast, broccoli, and protein shake type lean diet? Or just really up my overal protein intake?

I appreciate the info. I'm not looking for a trainer to hold my hand trough each work out. It could just be a structured diet and lifting program. Once I know what to do, and the why and how it will help me reach my goal, I'll do it. I enjoy lifting and I would love to learn new things from an expert in the field (sorry to use the term elite), and have them personalize a plan for me and my goals. Plus, I am pretty busy with my job and can't eat and work out all day long. I need to maximize my time in the gym to make sure I'm lifting as smart as possible.

And yes, I try to eat as high calorie as possible. My breakfast is probaly too light though. Otherwise, I eat a lot of fast food, pizza, chocolate, whole milk, cheese, weight gainer shakes...just can't gain.

Elite Personal Trainers in Nola area

Anyone know of any legit personal trainers in the Nola area? I have been doing the same workout routine for the past few years and have plateaued/burned out. I know there are plenty of work out programs online, but I'd love to consult with an expert that can tailor a program to me. I'm 6', 182 lbs, and very lean. I am a very hard gainer so I'd be super happy adding 5-8 lbs of bulk.

I know of Mackie Shilstone, but I figure he mostly sticks to high level athletes. I also have heard of Kash Guidry who trains some physique type guys.

I currently live on the Northshore, but maybe moving south soon. Any recs appreciated.
If you have tried the conservative stuff without success, there is a new mini-surgical procedure called Tenex that leads to a quicker recovery compared to the traditional surgery (google Tenex Health). You could also look into platelet rich plasma (PRP) injections, which may give you a better chance to heal compared to a steroid shot.
First off, I feel that Herman or Fisher would be “home run” hires by LSU. With that being said, there are certainly a lot of rumors swirling right now, and I am sure there are some parties being played in these alleged negotiations. In the event that Herman & Fisher would slip through our hands, I seem to be with the majority in considering the hiring of Gundy, Fedora, etc. to be underwhelming. An underwhelming hire would obviously not be good for the program and probably further splinter and disgruntle our fan base that has been so for the last several years. I know the sooner we name a head coach the better in terms of recruiting. However, rushing into hiring a Gundy or a Fedora in desperation would potentially be a major mistake.

I admit that while I have been skimming the posts on the coaching changes board the past several weeks, I have not been reading every word, so I could have missed some of these names being discussed, so forgive me if you guys have already discussed these options. If nothing else, reaching out to some of these guys would at least give us more leverage in terms of negotiations with Herman and Fisher.

Jack Del Rio: I believe he is the lowest paid NFL coach at $3.5 mil/year, so we could certainly give him a nice raise. He played and coached with the Saints, and I also believe his daughter went to LSU. There is also uncertainty with the Raiders in terms of a potential move to Las Vegas. An interesting dynamic through would be that he would potentially have to coach against his son Luke at UF.

Bill O’Brien: Like Saban, he had success running a major college program, and then wanted to try his hand in the NFL (only he’s done better than Saban in the League). I have no clue if he wants to go back to college, but there was a rumor last year that he flirted with Maryland. It seems that it took some persistent negotiations on Bama’s part to get Saban from Miami. His salary is apparently $5 mil/year, so we could also likely give him a raise as well. Also, like Saban, he coached under Belichick. He also would be a popular name in East Texas in terms of recruiting having coached the Texans the past few years.

Doug Pederson: Played QB for ULM and coached HS in Shreveport at Calvary.

Todd Monken: Former LSU WR coach and head coach at Southern Miss. Dirk Koetter tapped him to call the plays as OC for the Tampa Bay Buccs this year, so he is a pretty well respected offensive mind. He has connections in the deep south from coaching at USM and LSU. He only won 1 game in his 1st 2 years at USM, but that refects somewhat on the state that Fedora left that program in. Monken won 9 games at USM last year before they lost to a good WKU in the CUSA title game.

So, after this long post, my question is…does anyone know if LSU has reached out to ANY NFL candidates, or vice versa?

re: The Few Realistic Coaching Upgrades

Posted by SlickG on 11/25/15 at 3:13 pm to
LSU matches up the best with A&M compared to the other three November opponents. It is senior day (lost last yr to Bama), so the players should be motivated (and the usual juniors that leave early). Plus, the whole Chavis deal leaving us for A&M should be more motivation for the players & fans. If we lose to A&M, it falls more clearly on the shoulders of the coaching staff.
I really like Dan Mullen and I think he would be great at LSU. However, I just think it would be hard for him to tell his team that he is jumping to another SEC west school (for more $$), and then turn around and play the guys that he recruited for the next few years. I'm not afraid of Miss St. playing the revenge factor but it would just be kind of awkward. We could do a lot worse than Mullen though.

The Few Realistic Coaching Upgrades

Posted by SlickG on 11/25/15 at 12:33 pm
First, let me say that I am a little torn on Miles potential departure. I’ve been looking at this A&M game since the Bama loss as the “make or break” game for Miles. If he loses against A&M (even despite a potential distraction excuse), we definitely need a change. If he wins, I hate to pay $15 mill to fire him, but things have gotten stale and a change is probably needed. I think it was John Madden who originally said that no matter where you are, after about 10 years coaching somewhere, things tend to get stale.

I don’t know if any fan base has ever been so splintered over the course of a coach’s career than LSU fans have been over Miles. This new potential hire really needs to be a homerun so we can simply unite our fanbase once again and provide a much needed jolt of energy to our program. Since it sounds that Miles may already be on the way out regardless of Saturday night’s outcome, I feel that there are VERY FEW candidates that are both realistic AND potential upgrades over Miles.

Jimbo Fisher is the obvious best choice. He is the safest option and I think he would provide the most seamless transition to success in 2016. It would be pretty cool if he could reunite with Bo Pelini as our DC as well (They won the SEC west together in ’05 and were 22-4 coaching at LSU together). I have to believe we could beat his salary at Youngstown state (although hopefully he would stay up in the booth during the games).

Chip Kelly is an exciting choice but he seems a little out of place down here in the south. At the same time, there are plenty of northern implants coaching down here that have done fine. I don’t know how much of a factor that would make in recruiting, but certainly Jimbo would be much more familiar with the territory in comparison. I don’t follow pro football that closely so I haven’t watched Kelly’s Eagles too much, but it seemed like his Oregon teams were on the finesse side of things, while I like a more physical team.

Bill O’Brien is a coach that I have liked a lot. I just googled him and apparently he is unhappy with the Texans and has shown interest in the Maryland job. One would think that if he would take the Maryland job, he would take LSU if offered, however I think he coached at Maryland before and the Under Armor CEO is apparently ready to offer him big money. He also doesn’t seem to stay in places very long and I would feel like he is someone who could bolt LSU if another good opportunity came up.

If the above guys don’t work out, the only other names that I think have the potential to be good at LSU and are realistic are Larry Fedora, Tom Herman, and Todd Monken (especially if he can beat LA Tech this week). These certainly don’t bring the excitement and name recognition as the above, but I think they are good coaches and worthy of interviews.

My point is, LSU had better be darn sure they can get one of these guys, otherwise, they need to stay with Miles despite him being on thin ice and its effect on recruiting.

SEC Talent Rankings

Posted by SlickG on 11/11/15 at 10:44 am
The most objective way I could think of to get a sense of the general talent level of our SEC brethren was to average the national recruiting rankings from 247 over the last 5 years. It seems that the 247 rankings are the most respected and I picked 5 years to cover redshirt seniors through true freshman on the 2015 teams:

SEC Rank - Team - Average National Ranking

1 Alabama 1.0

2 LSU 7.0

3 Georgia 8.0

4 Auburn 8.4

5 Florida 9.6

6 Tennessee 13.8

7 A&M 15.2

8 South Carolina 18.6

9 Ole Miss 21.2

10 Arkansas 24.8

11 Mississippi St. 26.8

12 Kentucky 36.2

13 Missouri 39.0

14 Vanderbilt 43.4

I wanted to post this for a few reasons. I have heard a lot of people say this week that LSU has just as much talent as Bama. I feel that our starters are pretty even talent wise, however the difference is depth. With the top recruiting ranking every single year, they have a few more guys than us that can come off the bench and not suffer a drop off; especially in the defensive front 7. On the flip side, I think our superior depth is a big reason why we beat Miss St. this year.

The second reason I posted this is to emphasize the importance of this week’s game against the pigz. Looking at the rankings above, you can see the difference in talent between Arky and LSU. Additionally, Arkansas had ZERO players on Phil Steele’s pre-season All-SEC 1st, 2nd, 3rd, OR 4th team defenses or special teams.

I understand that Toledo, who likely would be ranked lower than Vandy in the above rankings, beat Arkansas, as well as Jacksonville St. playing with AU for 4 quarters. This puts the emphasis on Miles and this coaching staff to earn their salary, motivate this team, and avoid the embarrassment that was last year’s Arky game. Between Bielema’s post-game comments last year that “we beat’em like yard dogs” or whatever he said, and the Boot trophy, we have no reason not to be up for this game. We have no buisness loosing to an inferior program and a team with inferior talent two years in a row.
I thought the stadium was pretty nice. It was loud and the crowd seemed very into the game at all times from the first to the last play. The Bama people I met were all very nice and thanked us for coming and wished us safe travels (even before the game). The only clash between fans I saw, was a when an LSU fan threw a Bama dude's pom-pom back at him as he was walking down the stadium isle. Don't know how he got it, but it didn't escalate into anything serious. There were a few roll tides shot at me walking out the stadium, but nothing I took offence to. Yeah, weather was bad and prevented us from walking around more and seeing the campus more. I was shocked at the lack of traffic getting out of T-town, especially since everyone stayed till the end.
I agree with your post. I think it was big not having our SR 300 lb TE to help block those guys too. Anyway, I feel our early departures vs. those at Bama is certainly a worthy subject of discussion. I firmly believe that if Reggie Ragland & A'Shawn Robinson played for LSU, they would have gone pro last year.

I don't know if it is Saban brainwashing them or their player salary at Bama that keeps them there, or both. Or is it a problem on our end, that the players don't have as much confidence or trust in Miles. Or maybe it's just grown to be the culture of our program (although we seemed to have a few more guys stick around this year). You would think however, that a coaching staff that does so well in recruiting the high school kids could recruit our guys to stay too.

Kendall Beckwith's decision is huge for LSU. If he leaves, we may be in trouble next year on D. He would really hurt LSU by leaving early. I just don't see Saban "allowing" a player like that to leave early.

If we can get Beckwith and at least Pocic or Big Hawk to come back next year, we should have a decent chance against Bama. They will have great starters again next year, but not the ridiculous depth on the defensive front 7. I think we could see Smart and/or Kiffin move on after this year as well.
So I’ve been thinking about who I would attack on our defense if I was Lane Kiffin, and I was thinking Ricky Jefferson and Dwayne Thomas. Well, I “stumbled” upon this article over at al.com about which LSU players are being mimicked by the pachyderm scout team:
LINK
<
Underneath an overcast sky, Alabama went through its first practice in advance of Saturday's matchup with LSU on Monday afternoon.

Here are notes from the portion of Monday's practice open to the media:

— Running backs Ronnie Clark and Derrick Gore were two of the scout team players responsible for mimicking LSU star running back Leonard Fournette.

— Freshman safety Shawn Burgess-Becker was playing LSU safety Rickey Jefferson.

— Wide receivers Deionte Thompson and Derek Kief were playing Tigers wide receiver Malachi Dupre.

— Running back Xavian Marks wore the number of LSU wide receiver Trey Quinn.

— Defensive back Blaine Anderson played Tigers starting cornerback Dwayne Thomas.
>

I certainly would expect them to game plan against our offensive weapons, however I found it interesting that they specifically designated two of our most exploited defensive players. Or, maybe they had the whole LSU defense out there and the writer just happened to single out those two particular guys?

I wouldn’t mind seeing more Corey Thompson in the place of Jefferson. He’s bigger, more physical, and perhaps faster (mom was an Olympic level sprinter). That is, if he hasn’t truly lost a step after his surgery (which would be sad in this day in age). Thompson started the last time we played in Tuscaloosa so it’s not like he hasn’t been there before. I’m partial to a big physical safety, especially against UA-T. Just my armchair observations…I trust in Steele so far though!
