Shough 2nd team? Dude is a favorite for ROY

Writer acknowledges he’s considered one of the best rookies this year, battling with 2 WRs and a RB last I saw; but he’s the 2nd best QB?
Hell, when Shough was considered the 2nd best QB in the ROY race it was to Dart. But Ward is clearly the best rookie QB
If Saints lose, they will be 8th. If they win it can be anywhere between 8-11; although I don’t see Miami winning w 1 seed still on the line for NE.

KC over LV & Cincy over Clev are key games to keep us at 9; assuming NE wins
Depends on what he demands in FA.

The move to trade Shaheed was 100% about getting something before he leaves in FA
Looks like their range will be from 8-12. Just need Atl over LAR tomorrow night. And KC over LV, Cincy over Clev & Miami over NE next week.

Loss to Atl locks the Saints in at 8

Can someone explain why MIA has anything to do with our draft pick?

Not an expert on it, but everything I’ve seen says SOS is the first tiebreaker for draft slot
Saints have the worst roster in the league and will not win a game this year

After today’s win, Saints still at 8 according to Tankathon

We need at least another year of not signing anyone and playing rookies.

I agree, but you know Loomis is sitting there and sees we have our QB so now let’s go scratch that itch. It won’t be as easy as it has been in the past, but there are ways to create some significant money to make some moves.

Not saying I agree with this move, but you know you can’t keep Mickey from spending Gayle’s money

2nd highest in dead money

Mickey fricking Loomis at work  :banghead:

But don't worry, if they don't resign Taysom, Cam, or Demario; they will quickly surpass the Jets dead cap space for 2026. Saints currently sitting at $65.8M. Taysom has $13.7M in voided contract waiting to hit that dead money, Cam has $18.8M, and Demario has $14.3M

With the Jets at $71.3M, we will surpass that with any one of those guys not extending before the league new year. But to be fair to Loomis, Jets have another $13.4M in voided contracts that "could" hit their books. So we may need 2 of those guys to not sign in order to pass them.

We’d have to sign a free agent close to the same amount for what Pickens signs for to lose the comp pick. Unless we sign more than we lost like what happened with Dalton. I’m guessing Loomis learned the hard way when he found out we weren’t getting that 3rd with his blunder.

That's my point. Let's play the hypothetical, Mickey used a 3rd for Pickens, instead of the 4th for Vele. Pickens does for the Saints what he's doing in Dallas and demands to be paid accordingly. Saints are forced to let him walk due to financial constraints.

As soon as they become players in FA, they will risk losing that comp pick for Pickens. As sited in your link, we lost on comp picks for Marcus (5 years $70M) & Armstead (5 years $75M) because of Maye (3 years $22.5M) & Dalton (1 year $3M).

Hell, just look at the fact they only have about 40 players under contract next year. They will have to make some offseason moves. May not have any individual signing at the equivalent of Pickens, but the signings do not need to be $ for $.

I remember. I’m the one that posted it pointing it out. That’s how stupid Loomis is. If he waited till after the deadline, we would have got a 3rd.

So, you were the "one that pointed it out", because I am sure no other poster noticed it or referenced it until you "pointed it out"; and you are still confident in this earlier post about Pickens leaving from you?

quote:

If he signs elsewhere for big money, we get a 3rd round comp pick back. So it’s a net neutral loss.

and a high 4th for what will basically be two years of Vele

I see you finally stopped calling it a top 100 pick.

Regarding some of your other posts about getting a comp pick for Pickens, and we don't have the money to sign big free agents... Do you not recall this board shitting on Loomis for rushing to sign Andy freaking Dalton before the comp pick deadline? That 1 year $3M deal offset Armstead's 5 year $75M contract when determining if the Saints would get a 3rd or 4th round comp pick after he walked in free agency.
I thought we were against Cultural appropriation.

I did like the "I can't be a racist, I have A black friend" statement
Would have been nice is KC could have pulled off the upset. Saints would have gone 3-0 for Christmas. Although, the Minnesota game really didn't matter because Minnesota already had the SOS lead over the Saints.
What I meant by "you can’t just continue to run up the gut either" is that you need to consider strategy. If you continue to push up the gut and the defense stacks the box; you run a high risk that you are stonewalled or lose yardage. Then the clock would stop similarly to an incompletion.

So, you could just try to run up the gut 3 times and hope to gain 1+ yard each time to run off 2 minutes. But, you are much better using the entire width of the filed to at least give the threat of an outside run, WR screen, slant....
Friend of mine was a work comp adjuster and would tell me stories about his claimants going to these hack doctors that would send them to “pain management clinics” that would give them brown bags of bills for $20. Those clinics would have clients wrapped around the corner
That site uses the SOS for the entire schedule. Comparably, ESPN only shows SOS for games played.
ESPN has Cincy at .558. Tank has them at .516
quote:

like that CFL rules for this - stop the clock after every play in the last 2 min

Arena league had the rule that under 2 minutes (may have been 1 minute for them) the clock stops on plays that result in loss of yards

No kneel downs, and you can’t just continue to run up the gut either
May want to add SOS from tankathon to your OP. When looking at this, what Minn & TB do are irrelevant because the Saints aren’t catching their SOS. They may not even catch Balt’s.

So the key results are needing Dallas, KC & Atl to win 1 more; and Cincy & Miami to win out.

As you pointed out, that KC/LV game is key as is Cincy’s final 2. Dallas should win both of their games; but I don’t see Atl or Miami winning again.

I think they pass Miami & Atl and end up 10th - 12th depending on what Cincy & KC do.

If they manage to lose to Atl, then I’d have them at 9th passing Miami. I think Cincy wins at least 1, and Saints have the SOS tie breaker on all of the other 6 win teams

Weak division as in three more wins and they would be in first place. They need to change the qualifying criteria for playoffs. No team from this division belongs in the playoffs. Yet, the division “champ” is in taking a spot from a.better team.

The problem with this is, what do you use to determine "better team". As it stands, the Carolina would be tied for 7th place with Detroit at 8-7 and have a better conference record (6-4 vs 5-5). Based on the criteria, if you were to eliminate auto qualifiers for division winners, they would still be a playoff team.
