i think youre putting to much of it on tua.
Not necessarily, maybe my perspective is a little different as I am a youth coach. Learning HOW to be tackled is a big point of emphasis in the early stages of development for our staff.
Some kids know how to deflect the impact or get down when they can see there are no other options. Then we have kids that are good players but get plastered often because they don't understand this concept.
I do agree that the defense was not great this year. The inside backers play was the WORST of the Saban era without a doubt.

Jalen never got injured, huh? Well at least Tua never missed a start and Hurts would have missed several games this year due to his ankle injury if he were still the starter. Let's completely overlook that scenario. We have ppl questioning a kid's toughness when he clawed back from a high ankle sprain to play for his team. To play for his fans.
I'm not sure if the point I am trying to make was understood. Alls I am saying is if he learns to take tackles better it'll decrease his chance of injury.
I didn't once give my opinion on his toughness, I'm speaking on actual facts. Tua took too many unnecessary big hits (excluding the dirty plays). He spent more time in the tent/on the table than any player I've seen play at bama. That may actually speak to his toughness, where he kept fighting to play vs another player packing it in.

I'm totally amazed that no one has noticed the type of hits he takes. It wasn't just bad luck that got him injured. Tua has to learn how to take a tackle or he'll be nicked up again this upcoming season.
For comparison, in all of Jalen's starts how many times did he enter the tent? 0...& I can count on one hand the number of big hits Jalen took in 2 full seasons of starting. Yea he didn't hang in and make the splash plays like tua but he was healthy, available & took his team to 2 nattys.
Knowing how to take on a tackler is a supremely underrated skill. Hopefully he improves that and the gunslinging because who knows the quality of the back-up qbs this season

re: Miller Forristall. Do we have our H-back?

He already gets open better than OJ, I have a feeling this kid is going to be a match up nightmare. He just needs to get his strength up... the D was knocking him around but he got back up every time.

we will have to agree to disagree but if he was brought in for RB depth for this year then I dont see him helping at all. Years down the road maybe.
Saban has been pretty consistent about recruiting guys that give bama a great scout team look to help prepare for teams/players on the schedule.
From the highlights the kid looks like a homerun threat and I am sure the staff sees that value in that type of ability. Onterio McCalebb was pretty small, weight wise, and he held up well in the SEC.

Was thinking the same thing. Either the services haven't caught up with our evals this year, or something else is going on. It's a weird cycle, but I'm sure Bama will end up with a top 5 class loaded with, primarily, 4 & 5*s
This is what Bama has been missing, guys who want to fight to prove their worth not guys who want to preserve themselves for the NFL. I LIKE IT A LOT!!!!!!!
What were the star ratings of Saban's only undefeated team at bama ('09 squad)?

Agreed. This class is strange. We have as many three stars committed right now as we ended with last recruiting cycle. Hopefully it will pick up soon, maybe some of the higher ranked in-state recruits will commit.
Hopefully Saban has realized that the most competitive teams he has fielded at bama where filled with guys fighting to show they deserved to play just as much as the highly recruited guys.
When you have 3rd string 5 star guys all over the roster team chemistry is going to take a major hit. They feel entitled as opposed to being motivated to go out and bust their arse to earn PT. Of course there is always an exception to the rule.
Saban has managed this is about as well as anyone but at the end of the day it is not the best approach.
