re: Why is Mizzou playing AT Arky St?

This is from a reporter for the Arkansas Gazette

quote:

P-D: Was Arkansas State ever genuinely tempted to move this game to St. Louis? And how much does hosting a ranked SEC team mean to the program and the town of Jonesboro?

SCHULTE: Arkansas State AD Terry Mohajir maintains that he seriously considered offers from both Kansas City and St. Louis to move the game, but I don’t think they ever would have gone through with it. I think moving the game would have furthered the perception that schools from Power Five conferences won’t play at Jonesboro. (ASU has Miami visiting in 2017). And Mohajir played at ASU, so I think he takes a certain amount of personal pride in bringing an SEC team to campus. Also, keeping the game in Jonesboro was essential to securing a $5 million donation toward a new press box with suites and club seating that will be opened Saturday night. That’s what makes Saturday night so big for ASU, too. Missouri is the highest ranked team to ever play at ASU and the first SEC team to do so since Ole Miss in 2001, but the opening of the unveiling of the west-side renovations has created just as much excitement.

Here's a good story about the OOC scheduling troubles from switching conferences:

Columbia Tribune Article

My understanding is that Mizzou had 1 fewer OOC game in the B12. So we were hard pressed to fill the schedule after we converted. Also the SEC began considering a 9 game conference schedule so we had to further delay finding OOC games. Texas A&M had similar problems.

In the end, Ark St had the negotiating power and we agreed to a home-and-home. We have similar situations until 2022.
