I think you are wrong on both counts:
1) You start Puryear over Jontay because of his experience, particularly once you get into conf play with hostile crowds and physical play. Jontay is best suited to come off the bench once the game has settled in. Plus he brings a scoring threat off the bench which is needed for depth.
2) Puryear is not athletic enough to play the 3. He travels quite often when trying to make a move on the outside and doesn't shoot well enough to play on the perimeter. The 4 is his best position. He's a junkyard dog type of guy (rebounds, put backs, hustle plays).

This changes game to game. We’ve had games this year where Phillips was the best of the 3, and games that Geist played really well and games that it was Harris.
This is spot on. HCCM is going with the "hot hand" at PG. Whichever guard is getting the offense flowing and not turning the ball over is getting the minutes. For most of the game against WVU it was Geist. But in the final 6 minutes, none of them could deliver.
Harris is young and not quite strong enough physically to handle intense pressure. He will be a stud by his junior year.
Geist is active and brings a certain intensity. However, he is erratic and is proned to getting out of control. When he plays under control he's pretty decent.
Phillips is erratic as well. He can get out of control as well, but has a pretty good BB IQ. He doesn't take care of the ball well at times, but hits big shots. He has a tremendous attitude.

In my mind he needs to win at least one of the final 2. I'm likely alone on this, but he has yet to win my SEC road game. He needs to win an SEC road game to earn that 3rd year IMHO.

FAU doesn't concern me especially if he has aspirations of playing at the next level. Florida or Tennessee might concern me, but a commit this late may be tough to flip.
re: Will Rhoades fire Kim Anderson after only his second season?

If the season finishes the way the trajectory is headed, then YES he should go. Rhodes did not hire KA so there should be no loyalty forcing hi to hold onto him.
The reasons I think he needs to go is that the team does not hustle, they don't play with any passion, they don't defend well and they are soft. These are all reflections of the coach and they are character traits of teams that finish in the bottom 25% of the league every year.

Stole this from the Alabama board. It would tend to support the tweet. Sounds like a reasonable decision on his part.

Some insight into what has transpired over the last 48 hours regarding Tosh. I get some insight from inside the complex from time to time but this is my first time to share any of it mainly because it isn't that sensitive.
Tosh was offered a job by Kirby on UGA staff with a bit of a raise bigger title etc. He didn't accept on the spot, went to Nick and told him about the offer and he wanted to go.
Nick already losing quite a few coaches and possibly more. So on the spot he offers him a 100k raise and an upgrade in title to either Associate/CO/Assistant DC.
Should see all approved next board meeting.

Yeah, Fedora would be a good option too.

I'm still holding out hope that Herman is an option. I think we need a guy with a strong offensive background. We are not in rebuild mode. We have a young QB and young WRs who gained valuable, albeit tough playing experience this year. The right guy can mold them into a dominant force. Herman and Applewhite would be ideal.

Here is the #6 point you missed in your pitch. Per Scott Roussel of FootballScoop.com: “This is an SEC job, now, where they’ve proven a path to win the SEC East. You win the SEC, you get into the playoffs. There, you have a chance to win the national championship. It’s a great job. It’s a very good job. You can win championships. Supposedly next year, they’re going to break ground on the new football facilities. That would help, too, but that’s not a dealbreaker for anybody. You’ve proven you can win championships. Gary has elevated the status as a program tremendously, and people are just hoping to build upon what he’s done."
I like it. I didn't include a point about the SEC because I view South Carolina as our main competition at the moment and they make the same claim.

The Pitch to Herman
Posted by Alphaman on 11/19/15 at 11:50 am
Here are some thoughts on sales pitch to Tom Herman and why now Mizzou is the right spot for him. In essence he come in and hit the ground running and continue to build his personal brand...
1) QB - From day 1 he has a talented, highly recruited QB who has starting experience with 3 years of eligibility left to build his team around. He can mold this young man to what he wants without having to go through the first time starter issues.
2) D-Line U - From day 1 he has one of if not the best D-Line coaches on the roster who has produced 1st round draft picks, All Americans and NFL defensive lineman. The roster currently has 3 players on it who will likely play on Sundays and be high draft picks (Augusta, Beckner, Harris) with the potential for 2 or 3 more (Brantley, Brady, Howard). the D-Line returns it's entire 2 deep next season.
3) The Mizzou Brand is already established in the place where he is best established as a recruiter...Texas. The brand is also established in the traditional SEC locales (Georgia, Tennessee,Florida) which will make building his name there much easier.
4) Young talented WR corp - While the numbers aren't impressive from this group, there is talent there that will only get better over the next 2 years.
5) No fear of his future ambitions. If his dream job is Univ of Texas, we will not stand in the way of that move if he commits 3 solid years to Mizzou. After year 3 we'll even put in a minimal buyout if he goes to UT. Many will argue with this point, but here's the thing. If he has had the success at Mizzou that will make him the guy that Texas wants, we have likely been to a couple of SEC championship games and possibly won one of them. If that's where our program is at that point, we'll be fine getting attracting a quality coach.

As much as I would like to see Patterson, Herman, or Fuente hired, I think the best move and most seamless transition would be to promote Odom. We could then promote Kul to DC and promote future HOFer, Justin Smith, to DL coach. Henson would then have one year to show major improvement in the offense before looking for a new OC.
We are a .500 team with an offense that has not been very good the last 2 years. Why is there a push for continuity?
re: DGB: What a waste of talent.

They did say that Mizzou was 2nd to Florida State, but that statement is very misleading. To be correct it should state that Mizzou was 2nd to Florida State among the 10 schools they focused on. Who knows what the stats are for the other 100+ FBS schools.
Further, to a point that was made earlier, NONE of this new news. It has already been covered so now it is just slinging mud.
Finally, with regard the subject and OP, witnesses to the incident involving DGB have said that she was the instigator and she herself said she went BACK to HIS room to continue the incident and physically attacked HIM.

Alexander would be the ideal signee at this juncture. Without question, we need another post player.
re: How far can Mizzou make it in the SEC tourney?
Posted by Alphaman on 3/4/15 at 3:16 pm
I think we've got a decent shot to win our first game. South Carolina, Mississippi State and Auburn are all teams we can beat. if we win that game, the 2nd game is problematic depending on the matchup. Georgia and Ole Miss just seem like bad match ups for us. LSU seems to be a better match up.

wubilli Senior Night tonight A lot of Posts moving screens are the fault of our guards. They start the move before the bigs get there to set the pick.
And leaving too much space between them and Post which leaves space for the defender. The screener then has to lean to get a piece of the defender causing a foul. All the bigs do that from what I've seen.

I really like Isabell. Kid has moxy and has playmaking skills, probably more than anyone else. He needs to mature a bit (as would be expected), but he can be phenominal in the future.
re: Any early guesses on who will play right away?

I agree with the OP's choices except one. I think T Hall has a shot to play on STs like other LBs have on their way to being dynamic LBs.

Sounds like he needs a call from Coach Pinkel and Coach Kuligowski.
1)SEC Coach of the year
2)National D-Line Coach of the year
3)Stable coaching staff
4)Family atmosphere
5)DLine ZOU!!!
Sounds like a perfect fit...MIZ ZOU :dude:
