re: How was the experience for the bucket list crowd?

One of the Bowling Green fans here. There were a total of five of us. My brother and I met up with PhiTiger at his tailgate and damn they showed us a hell of a time.
I'm sure I probably bumped into a bunch of other people, but things got blurry after my fourth shot of Maker's Mark in under five minutes. Don't worry though, I came back to my senses just in time for kickoff.
All in all, absolutely incredible experience. Weather was phenomenal, people were friendly, food was incredible. Game didn't turn out how I had hoped, but the energy and noise was something I'll never forget.
I would love to come back one day.

Guys one last question (maybe). We're looking at staying in New Orleans Thursday and Friday. Someone recommended the Monteleone Hotel, but they're booked for that Friday night
Any other not crazy expensive hotels near Bourbon St. we should check out?

Guys,
thanks for all of the really helpful posts. If all this friendliness is any indication of what we're in store for once we get there, I know it's going to be the time of our lives.
If any of you see some young guys walking around wearing BGSU gear flag us down - we'd love to talk, eat, and most importantly - drink with you!

You can get tickets outside the stadium. For 2007 Florida we got 7 tickets outside the stadium for no more than $100 each. Though not all of the tickets were in the same section. The trick is to wait until the gates open. That's when people start getting rid of tickets right outside the stadium. I did the same thing at the 2009 Florida game. Got two tickets together lower bowl 35 yard line for $100 each.
This sounds too good to be true. Obviously there's a good deal of risk with this strategy. Would other posters recommend a similar course of action? We don't mind splitting up.

Picking up single here and there Gameday might be doable. But hanging your hat on getting several, let alone any together? I'd buy early.
What if we try to split off into pairs for the game? Is that more feasible? Definitely understand trying to find a large group is going to be hard.

It's not hard to get tickets. Question is, how much do they want to pay?
I know my brother and I are dead-set on getting in. I'd be happy to pay anything $400 or less, but if it comes down to it I could fork over more.
Looks like the only tix in that range are in the upper chairbacks. Those worth picking up or should I gamble and hope to find a lower seat?

That's what I was worried about. Should we try to buy them ahead of time on StubHub, or do you think it's smarter to buy some the day of the game?
Yanks En Route for LSU v. Bama

Hey guys,
About a year ago I made a my first post saying that I was planning to fulfill my dream of the past seven years of attending an LSU/Bama game. It took some effort to convince a bunch of my Big 10 buddies to make the commitment, but we're at a point where we're ready to start planning the specifics.
About us: We're a bunch of recent college grads aged 24-26. We are a pretty lively bunch that enjoys the full tailgating/college football experience (aka lots of booze). We all went to BGSU in Ohio.
Here's our questions: We want to get into the game. Should we buy tickets now? If not, when? We're not opposed to getting some outside the stadium if that's the best bet.
Concerning the tailgate: my one buddy has an uncle that lives in BR who might have a tailgate spot. We'll definitely be partying there, but I was wondering how acceptable it is to go around and mingle with other groups. (Keep in mind tailgating isn't very big at BGSU so this is new territory for us). We'd love to try some cajun food and get the full LSU experience. Can we just walk up with some beer and start socializing? Don't worry - we'll have plenty of beer.
That's my two questions for now. I'm open to any advice and pointers.
I can't wait to set foot in Tiger Stadium!

It's true. Went to the school that spawned Urban Meyer in northwest Ohio. MAC schools get rekt in athletics, but going to a school with 60% chicks has its perks.
Is Cleveland actually the best location for JFF?
Posted by FalconTiger on 5/8/14 at 11:24 pm
There's no question that JFF was an absolute terror against all SEC teams not from Baton Rouge...but he relied on making absurd plays. Undoubtedly a legendary college football player, but no way this translates to the pros.
Here's why going to the Browns is a godsend for JFF:
He will be thrust into a starting role from the first week. There will be a ton of pressure and he will try making his signature plays, but will get shut down much like he did against LSU.
After a season of lackluster numbers he will get traded around and act as a free agent to a bunch of different teams (a la Matt Flynn but with less actual contributions).
In the end he will have started for a season and done terrible...but he will be able to point back and say it was the Browns organization and not his lack of ability in the pros. Helps him save face and stay close friends with Drake all while collecting a pretty paycheck.
This dude's living the dream. Well done Johnny.
Thoughts?

This is actually a best-case scenario for JFF. When he ultimately disappoints in the NFL he can look back and blame the Browns organization...and people will believe him.

No big deal really. Gruden just gets these guys on there, has them throw a few passes, and then sits them down in a room to choke on their d*** for a few minutes. Literally nothing more than a fluff camp for some media exposure. Mett will get his.

I think some of you have alluded to this, but what about this as part of the whole concept of getting paid:
You can elect to receive payment above the value of a scholarship for that school, but in doing so you must commit to finish your degree in four years.
If you don't elect to receive payment (and just take the scholarship) you can leave whenever you want (or after three years as it is now).
This will offset some of the personal risk of forfeiting income in the NFL (or other pro league), albeit not to the same degree. It would provide some immediate income as well as a degree.
Conversely, it would allow schools to fully realize their investments and make for a good fan experience.

They will be getting "paid". Every athlete/woman that would have otherwise gotten a scholarship will still receive a scholarship before the remaining money is split among the programs actually generating revenue.

Let's look at some numbers here and imagine how things would play out under a hypothetical scenario: member schools of a football conference pay an amount to student athletes determined by revenue generated.
From 2012-2013 the SEC generated enough revenue to give each team $20.7 million (keep in mind this is before the SEC network is established, which will only boost this number). This is $4.5 million less per school than what the Big 10 distributes.
Using the revenue generated, come up with an amount each school can pay its athletes. In an effort to take money out of recruiting between conference schools, make the amount consistent across the conference...sorry SWAC.
Furthermore, set the baseline for every athlete as a scholarship. This is so minor athletes still have a chance to receive a scholarship (payment). However, funds over that baseline will be distributed to sports who generate more revenue.

Easy. Take the money up front. Invest at least $100M of the initial $500M and hope for an average rate of return of 8% over 25 years and you will have ~1.01B in 25 years with the benefit of having the additional $400M day one.

Here is what I think is a complete list:
Year Player Position
2007 JaMarcus Russell QB
2009 Ricky Jean-Francois DT
2010 Chad Jones DB
2011 Patrick Peterson CB
2011 Stevan Ridley RB
2012 Morris Claiborne DB
2012 Michael Brockers DT
2012 Rueben Randle WR
2013 Brad Wing P
2013 Michael Ford RB
2013 Chris Faulk T
2013 Barkevious Mingo DE
2013 Eric Reid DB
2013 Kevin Minter LB
2013 Bennie Logan DT
2013 Tyrann Mathieu DB
2013 Sam Montgomery DE
2013 Tharold Simon DB

Don't get rustled if this isn't 100%, but I feel like it's close.
