Tennessee head baseball coach Tony Vitello is reportedly closing in on a deal to become the San Francisco Giants manager, according to The Athletic.

Vitello led the Vols to the 2024 College World Series title, won two SEC tournament titles, and has won 341 games in his eight seasons in Knoxville.

Will be really interesting to see how this plays out. Historically and to a fault, MLB has been very incestuous. MLB holds on to the ‘old school’ mentality, which is quite impressive.

Starting with Ron Polk and Skip, College baseball is light years ahead of MLB when it comes to applying statistics and scientific method to the game.
