Tennessee announced this week that defensive lineman Danny O'Brien has been dismissed from the team for violating team rules.

The news comes just a few days after he was carted off the field from a helmet-to-helmet hit during last Saturday's game vs. Texas A&M. Per YahooSports.com:

Two days after he was carted off the field at Texas A&M, Tennessee defensive tackle Danny O’Brien has been dismissed from the program.

Tennessee said in a brief release that O’Brien’s dismissal stems from a violation of team rules.

“This news is unrelated to the injury he suffered against Texas A&M. However, should he require any additional care, it will be provided by the University of Tennessee,” the release said.

Pretty obvious. He failed some type of drug test. Shame. He's a great player and teammate.

A great teammate wouldn't leave his team in the middle of the season by failing a drug test.
