The athletic program at the University of Tennessee has come under national scrutiny after the school was recently sued for the way sexual assault complaints made against student-athletes were handled.

On Tuesday, every Tennessee head coach held a joint press conference to defend the culture of the athletic department. While all coaches attended the event, noticeable missing was athletics director Dave Hart and Chancellor Jimmy Cheek.

Here is what football coach Butch Jones had to say, according to ESPN:
quote:

"Everything is about the alleged victims, and we take that very, very seriously," said football coach Butch Jones, who said Saturday that his program doesn't have a culture problem. "We feel for them. We hurt for them. ...

"It's not who we are. We have great players in our football program. We have great individuals in this entire athletic department. We have a very good culture in place. That's why I said we're going to defend our culture. We have good people. We're embarrassed by it. We're upset by it. It's not who we are."
Here are some more tibits from the event:

Dumb move. If the Title IX case ever makes it to court, any Plaintiff will use that pathetic display in their takedown of UT and pick it to pieces.

not who we are hate that line. Your actions are who you are. this is what players on the team are doing.

we have a good culture.
a culture that hides and covers up. and instead of having women feel safe at night. they tell them they should impose a curfew on themselves.
Multiple alleged rapes
soliciting minors
threatening and attacking people who speak out.
and not doing anything about it and trying to make it go away.

this whole meeting was a crock of bullshite to appease the masses, maybe run your talking points by a Public Relations rep. Women should stay indoors at night.
