Harvey Updyke, who’s trial began this week, has admitted to poisoning the trees at Toomer’s Corner on the campus of Auburn University. He did not admit to the crimes in the court room, but outside by the elevator according to the Auburn Plainsman. Updyke said...

“Did I do it? Yes,” “They’re going to find me guilty… it’s a done deal,” Updyke said. “I don’t think I’m going to get a fair trial.”
And even better, his official plea is "not guilty."

His official plea is not guilty by reason of mental defect. Since he's a gump, that's a slamdunk defense.
