On Monday's McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning, Paul Finebaum addressed a perception that the SEC is no longer a dominant entity. After receiving a first-round College Football Playoff bye, Georgia lost its second-round matchup to Notre Dame without Carson Beck...
quote:

"The national narrative has been focused on primarily one thing: The SEC reign of power is over," Finebaum said. "I guess everybody missed the announcement back in early summer that Texas was now a member of the SEC, but that's OK."

"The SEC Championship Game did Georgia no favors," Finebaum said (h/t On3). "Not only did the Dawgs lose Carson Beck, they ended up with a tougher draw. If they had the same path as Texas — playing Clemson, we know how that would’ve turned out. Arizona State was probably the surprise to me. It was easy to be dismissive of them, even though they had played well. I think Georgia would’ve gotten through that game as well."

"In the end, it really doesn’t matter. Georgia became the new Alabama," Finebaum claimed. "By losing to Notre Dame, it became the national narrative. And certainly the way it happened played into that."

Finebaum is stating the obvious. NIL & the Transfer Portal has literally evened the playing field in less than 4 years. The dominance of the SEC (or any conference, for that matter) will eventually diminish because the draw is no longer PRIDE, EDUCATION, PLAYER DEVELOPMENT, and some under the table MONEY. The draw now is simply MONEY. Whichever school offers the most is where the player is going to "study" until that player is ready to transfer (typically within 12 months of enrolling).

Recruiting and transfer rankings disagree. 10 of the top15 in transfer rankings are SEC schools. The top3 are all SEC schools.
