CBS Sports is reporting that a new college football poll called the Super 16 will be used during the 2014 Season.

The Football Writers Association of America and National Football Foundation have partnered to form the FWAA-NFF Grantland Rice Super 16 poll beginning in 2014. The announcement was made Tuesday morning.

Beginning this season, the top 16 teams will be ranked weekly by a roster of 36 voters. Twenty-six of those will be FWAA members, “current or past writers of national stature," according to the press release. The 10 NFF voters will consist college football hall of fame players, coaches and administrators.

CBS Sports believes that this new poll could be considered a third major poll along with the AP and coaches' polls.

The panel of voters will be released this summer.

Excellent. This will certainly bring a lot to the table of discussion and provide original and objective ranking that will be taken seriously by all concerned. I'm sure the new ranking will factor greatly into the playoff committee's uncontroversial decisions.

One fricking poll, knowledgeable sports media reps and randomly selected coaches each year equal percentage from playoff conferences. One poll.

How about a poll that doesn't start ranking teams until 5/6 games into the season. Eliminates "established media darlings" advantage. USC/Texas etc... that gets ranked high every year just for fielding a team.
