Rumors began to circulate Monday that former-Alabama coach Nick Saban was eyeing a potential return to college football. One of his former assistants decided, Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffin weighed in. While speaking to reporters at the kickoff of SEC Media Days, Kiffin was asked if he would hire his 73-year-old mentor should he become available...
quote:

"He's not going to need me to hire him," Kiffin told the Clarion Ledger. "I don't think he's done. I think he'll be back. Whether that's college or NFL, I think he'll be back."

Reportedly he also retired because he was pissed at the direction college football had taken with the transfer portal and NIL. Saban is a micromanager that wants complete control of the players on his team. That's the reason he left the NFL (can't bench a insabordinate premadonna when he makes millions a year). He loved the control he had in CFB. Now, to a great extent, that's gone. If yhou discipline a player, you risk them going into the transfer portal.

Nick Saban quotes: 2024 - "the mental and physical grind of coaching at age 72 had become unsustainable"
2024 - cited age and general health concerns as major factors for stepping away
"It just got a little bit harder," as he could no longer maintain the long hours and intensity he demanded of himself.

I doubt it. He's not young and everybody pays players now.
