Memphis Meteorologist Rips John Calipari On Air
Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports
So, here's what happened. In an interview after his induction into the Hall of Fame John Calipari said this of his former employers Memphis and UMass...
quote:

“I loved those places. I loved those jobs,” “But you were at the little table, you weren’t at the big table. You never got to carve the turkey. You had plastic forks and plates.”
Which as you'd think, didn't sit well with some. One in particular was FOX 13 meteorologist Joey Sulipeck in Memphis, who then blasted the coach on air. Here's a clip...

Here is the full rant...
quote:

?“It was a cheap shot. What he just said was ignorant and cheap. He’s a spin doctor. I hope somebody YouTubes this and sends it to him. That cat is a spin doctor, snake oil salesman that will turn anything in his direction. To come in here and talk about ‘how much I love Memphis and I support all these charities,’ please. When we play at the level we’ve played for as long as we have, Memphis is not a one-and-done school.

“Say you’re at the kid table with plastic utensils? Give me a plastic utensil and walk by me, Calipari. You don’t demean an entire program and say it’s the kid table and plastic utensils, got history like the Memphis program. Come on. “
Don't hold back.

They have more basketball history than Tennessee. So stop being butthurt. Cal shouldn't have ran his mouth. Especially after what Memphis did for him. Giving him another chance after destroying the UMass program and being a massive failure in the NBA. Selling out tons of games, playing in an NBA arena and top of the line practice facility.

Calipari didnt need to say what he said. Insulting a program for no reason is gauche.

Cal's not wrong, in fact, he's spot on. Memphis is the definition of sitting at the kid's table. They have little to no resources, and if it weren't for the Memphis Grizzlies, they'd no doubt be competing and practicing in mid-major style facilities. They're no longer chartering planes for their hoops teams, and have drastically slashed their basketball operating budget in hopes of not going completely broke. The meteorologist is a heartbroken homer with little to no perspective on major college athletics.

Their history is overrated too, nothing special.
