With its shot of a national title hanging in the balance, national 1-seed Tennessee counted on what it does best to come from behind for a 4-1 victory over 3-seed Texas A&M in Game 2 of the best-of-three Men’s College World Series championship finals on Sunday at Charles Schwab Field.
And what the Vols do best is hit home runs.
Down 1-0 for most of the game dominated by excellent pitching and missed offensive opportunities by both sides, the Volunteers surged ahead 2-1 on a two-run bomb by Dylan Dreiling in the top of the seventh and added a two-run insurance homer by Cal Stark an inning later.
Dreiling’s homer was his 22nd of the season. Stark’s was his 11th and his first hit of the MCWS, breaking an 0-for-16 drought that included nine strikeouts.
