I get so fricking sick of "recruit better" complaints without innovative ideas being suggested.
No one here works for the school so we don't have to suggest a damn thing. That's not our job.
A friend of mine who worked for the team said flat out that we're behind other schools, namely bama. It's little things that add up. We have people walk around a ton (and campus isn't an easy walk) whereas bama rides them around on ATVs. Little shite like that.

We recruit as well as most any top 10 team
As "most any", yeah. And it gets us ranked around 10 every year. Funny how that works. To break this plateau we have to recruit top 5, not just once, but for about 3/4 years.
quote:
The problem is the coaches fail to bring them up to top level production on the field.
Not sure I agree there. How much coaching do you think Percy harvin, julio jones, adrian peterson, cam newton, etc needed? If anything we're getting MORE out of these kids than you would think, for the most part.
quote:
Administration also puts stringent conditions as far as grades and personal performance that other schools don't have
very true
quote:
I would rather have UGas standards and fall short of a natty than be like Auburn and Florida State.
couldn't possibly disagree more with you there.
quote:
If all you want is titles then for Gods sake go support another team.
Florida is academically a better school than us and look what they've done the last 2 decades. There's nothing that says we have to blow up our entire program/image and start accepting mississippi state level standards to win big. We just need to level the damn playing field. We're playing t-ball compared to what other schools do. We drive 90 minutes all the way to got damn atlanta instead of using the airport that's 4 miles from campus when we fly. We are just NOW getting "support staff" that others have had for years. We are just now getting where we need to be with a S&C department. We still don't have an IPF. Our stadium, glorious and heavenly as it is, doesn't really make an on the fence fan or a visitor come back, does it? The diehards will always come so forget about them. What about the people we're trying to come out more? Our concessions are a 2 bit shitshow of an operation run by volunteers barely through puberty. We ban tailgating/fun from the best part of campus because we're too fricking stupid to put out more trash receptacles and refuse to hire a company to do cleanup checks. When people are there all day for a 7:30 kick and all the garbage cans are full by noon then no shite there's going to be trash everywhere. Our stadium doesn't have any hat tips to past greats. Go to jordan hare, go to bryant denny, go to ben hill....those places you walk up and you're instantly met with huge reminders of past players. What does sanford have in that regard? Well, the gate 6 concourse got widened! Whoopty doo.
If we had an AD who was even the tiniest bit forward thinking we'd be competing for titles in no time. But unfortuantley we are still only about building that resreve fund...when these dolts don't understand that going in 100% and FULLY BUYING IN to win a football title would bring in money hand over fist. Look at bama. They are swimming in dough and their admissions/academics have skyrocketed as well! And it all started because they financially made a committment to win football games. We haven't.

Until I started following recruiting two years ago, I thought like alot of people, top ten classes gets you into contention.
But now I see that top ten doesn't mean a whole lot because the real separation is in that top 5.
Humans like to think of things in Top Ten's, it's in our DNA for whatever reason.
In recruiting science, however, it seems to be Top Five is where the real jump is.
The difference from 1,2,3 down to 6,7,8 is huge.
It's not like the Top Ten are all within some margin of error of each other. It's not close.
#10 is closer to #20 than #5.
I wish stupid people like Workin'Dawg would stfu and go fix something or plow a field or do whatever Workin' Folk do to feed their poor families.

WG- your last couple of paragraphs are spot fricken on. Sad reality is staying in the top 10 with our chickenshat way of doing things is actually a hell of an accomplishment.

Exactly. A top 10 recruiting class is good enough to get you in contention for the east most years. The difference between 1 and 10 is astronomical. Here are the 5/4 stars gotten by the #1 ranked class and the #10 class in the classes all the way back to 08.
*08: 3/19...0/17
*09: 4/14...2/9
10: 5/14...2/8
*11: 3/14...2/8
*12: 3/14...0/13
*13: 4/13...2/9
*14: 6/13...2/9
The difference between 1 and 10 is crystal clear. Btw the years with an * denote that bama had the #1 class that year. For people whining and complaining that we aren't as good as bama..well, now you see why. Having the BEST recruiting class 6 of 7 years will do that. Over that time span they brought in 28 five stars compared to the 10 brought in by teams ranked 10th in that class. Sure saban is a good coach, but shite give any good coach that roster and see what happens.
Also going back to 2008, here are the SEC teams that finished AHEAD of us in the rankings:
14: aTm, LSU, UT, bama
13: aTm, auburn, ole miss, LSU, florida, bama
12: auburn, florida, bama
11: bama
10: tennessee, LSU, bama, auburn, florida
09: LSU, bama
08: florida, bama
Has our recruiting been good? Yes, or course! But holy shite. Good is fine I guess until you realize that we're getting worked by the other teams that we PLAY AGAINST every year. If we really want to be serious about a national title, we're going to have to start bringing in top 5 classes YEARLY.

It's Friday Night which means I get drunk and act like an a-hole on the internet. It's nothing personal.

Fair enough. I'm halfway there myself. Game on assclown!

Florida had a great run under Spurrier and another under Meyer. Before and between and since they had average or less. with all the Lizards success they are still only 4th best in SEC titles.
