Smart insists that the staff is confident in Fields ability to run the entire offense despite the recent usage of him as more of a runner than a passer.

"Everything is out there," Smart said. "He still comes in in practice and gets all the reps running the quarterback position and I think he'll continue to do that. It's easy to sit back and say and second guess at this time, but at the time, we thought that gave us a spark with some of the runs that he does and he's continuing to grow. Look, there's no fear in letting Justin go in the game and play quarterback and throw the ball, but at the same time, we've got to give ourselves the best opportunity to win and those are the decisions we have to make as an offensive coordinator and head coach."

If everything is out there with Fields passing, why not yesterday?

You posted the reason why:

Obviously, they don't feel he's ready.

You think our coach is going to say he’s not confident our back up QB can run the offense?

Cmon man. That’s dumb. I don’t care if Brice Ramsey is our back up. He still shouldn’t say that.

Why do coaches say half the shite they say?

Honestly, what do you expect him to say? "Hey other teams, when we put Fields in, he can't play quarterback very well."

It is a fool's errand to try and draw real analysis from Kirby's statements to the press. It is all platitudes and cliches, which is exactly how it should be.

There is more to the QB thing than simple evaluation of the talent of each player. QB battles are always highly political, especially in our situation where we only have two viable options, and there is a high likelihood that one will transfer if they feel the other has completely overtaken them.

This is the new reality of college football.

Radi Nabulsi said it best in their post-game wrap: Kirby said a few weeks ago that "the plan is: there is no plan."

Make a god damn plan!

Enough of saying the sky is green when everyone sees that it's blue. If Fields isn't ready to play, then quit raving about how ready to play he is. Smart hasn't been afraid to call out other new guys who just aren't ready yet due to learning curve, speed of the game, work ethic, conditioning, whatever the case may be. Just say it: he's not ready to play quarterback at the college level.

To the idea that saying that would create some strategic disadvantage, I would argue that we're already at a strategic disadvantage by the fact that whenever Fields checks in, teams 100% know it will be a running play unless it's garbage time because we've shown a refusal to let him actually play quarterback. He's been this year's Wild Dawg quarterback and nothing more.

Overall, Kirby just needs to quit stringing this thing out, because the longer it lasts, especially while Fromm is playing like shite, the uglier it looks on him and the program as a whole.

It's already turned into a disaster when it didn't have to be that. I really don't think he has a real choice now. Fields will be the starter at Georgia when they open on the road at Vandy in 2019. The question is simply when does the transition happen.

As for the subbing QBs every other play, only using Fields as wildcat, etc...I've said all I can say about how badly I think Kirby (and Chaney under his leadership) are mishandling the offense this year. It's a damn shame. It cost us a game yesterday. I really hope it doesn't cost us a few more this year.
