How many people in this thread can name the last 5 teams to win the NIT offhand? Probably not a single one, I know I can't.

More practice and playing time is definitely a plus, especially for guys who are gonna have a bigger role next year, no doubting that. Being in the NIT does beat the next worst alternative, not being in any tournament, but beating your chest about playing a couple of scrappy mid majors in front of 2k people in Stegeman isn't going to draw in a lot of recruits.

whose beating their chest about this?

Certainly not anyone in our program. They are more disappointed in this result than us, i am sure.

But it is still Coach Fox's job to turn this into a positive for recruits and the program. Just like Kirby did when we went to the Liberty bowl.

Dawgs miss a #1 seed in the NIT

Syracuse, Illinois St, Cal, and Iowa #1 seeds

Dawgs get #2 seed, play Belmont first round. Will play the Winner of Indiana and Tech second round if we advance

This is an interesting region. I'm might be down with watching a UGA vs Indiana on a Saturday.

I'd worry about beating Belmont first.

Would be pretty awesome to play Tech again. They have really improved through out the year but we could really prove that our program is ahead of theirs. I'll be rooting for the bugs.

Good thing we play Wednesday...a little extra practice time and recovery time for Yante. I really expect us to beat Belmont but if they hit their shots it could turn into a close game. They sound similar to Vanderbilt.

Nobody in this board could tell you who won the NIT the last 5 years because our team got knocked out early and we all stopped watching. Few on this board could probably tell us who won the NCAA tourney the last five years either without researching it. That's horrible reasoning/rationale for saying it's unimportant.

You can do better than that. I'm pretty disappointed in that attempt. I have higher expectations for you.

Right, because nobody gives a shite about the NIT, thanks for helping prove my point. FFS, our game isn't even on TV Wednesday, that should show you just how important it is to people.

I swear you have to be Mrs Fox. Your inability to differentiate criticism of the program and thinking we want the team to fail is absolutely astounding and pathetic

Our game against Belmont is viewable only on ESPN3.

Nobody can tell you because most of the NIT games you'd have to make a special effort to watch them.

Meanwhile, I had absolutely no dog in the NCAA Tourney championship fight last year but can vividly remember Nova winning a tight one over UNC

Belmont averages 30 3s a game, but their best player is a their power forward. They also make 77% of the FTs.

Its not going to be an easy game, and if they get anywhere close to 50% on their 3s, losing is a definite possibility.

Pretty easy to name most of the NCAA winners this decade, and probably century imo.

Duke's won 3 times
UCONN has won twice
Melo won it for Syracuse
Florida went back to back
North Carolina won with that stacked team
Cal won a couple years ago at Kentucky
Nova last year

Thats just off the top of my head. If I really wanted to think about it, I could probably get the rest.

The NIT? Didnt little Pitino go back to back with Minnesota a couple years ago? I think Bama won it recently. Other than that? I have no clue.

Well, yeah.

Who is arguing that the NIT is not irrelevant, if your team is not in it?

It is disappointing, but better than the alternative. Getting 20 wins for a 4th straight season, no matter how it happens, is a good thing imo. I don't see how anyone can disagree with that considering it has never happened before. Yes, we were hoping for more this year...i get the bitterness.

If we weren't expected to have more than 13-15 wins and we ended up with a good seed in the NIT I would be singing a different tune. Instead, with 2 all conference players, expectations of being a lock for the NCAAT, and a weak bubble, this doesn't feel like a good thing. Next football season if instead of going 10-2 and making it to the SECCG, we go 7-5 and play in the Idaho Potato bowl you aren't going to be saying "Well at least we played in a bowl game, certainly beats the alternative, and Kirby can turn this into a good thing". You'd be bitter af like I am now.
