I think the biggest problem I had with him was all the missed XP early in the season. He seemed to get that straightened out. He was deadly from 50+ for most of the season.

Deadly from 50+, but erratic at best from 40-20. He was a freshman though so he has some leeway. Kicking is such a mental game too though, so I hope he's in a good mindset coming into this year.

I mean i dont expect 90%> ....but he needs to be able to hit kicks 35 yeards and closer with more consistency...Glad Richt had some good words though.

they were close to 60 yarders with a strong wind..

but to the OP, I don't have a solid opinion on him yet. The jury is still out to me. The missed XPs were/are absolutely infuriating, and I got nervous every time he came in to kick. But admittedly he did seem to get a little better throughout the year.

He was rated one of the top 5 or so kickers in the nation in high school, so obviously he doesn't completely suck. I'm hoping it was a mental/freshman thing with him and now that he's got a year under his belt he'll be fine. If he is shaky again next year then I'll go ahead and call him the next Andy Bailey, but for now I think it's still a tossup.

Yeah the kicks in the scrimmage were from 57 & 60 I'm not worried if he misses those

This kind of helped me with my opinion on him. Whether it means anything we'll see.

Blair Walsh has been in Athens during the offseason, I think taking some classes, and has been giving him some good tips it seems.
quote:

"We hang out a good bit now. We've got a lot closer since he's been down here, we haven't kicked, but he's watched me and given me a bunch of good pointers that have really helped," Morgan said. "He's a great mentor, a great guy. To see what he's been doing, imitate his form has really helped me out a lot."
quote:

"I've widened out my steps a little bit and our last two field goal practices and I haven't missed a kick. I feel real confident out there," Morgan said. "Me, Nathan (long-snapper Nathan Theus) and Adam (Erickson), we've been getting a lot of reps in there and that's what helps accuracy the most - the more you kick, the better you get. I'm still lifting and working out real hard but I'm kicking more than I ever have before."

This. Andy Bailey went to my rival high school so I watched him play and he was incredible. His kicks were beautiful and perfect and he kicked it between the uprights nearly every time on kickoffs. It's more about how these young kids transition to the big stage. Kicking is like golf it's mostly mental, then it's form. Walsh transitioned really well as a freshman and then kicked arse his soph and junior seasons so I think we were all anticipating that. I believe he'll come around and I hope that's not just homer optimism.
