Exactly. He got to play one inning of a playoff series. Really worth 10+m a year? Plus his stock is at an all time high and who knows if he will hold up or be this consistent through the years.

I mean he's one of my favorite players on the team but I see why a cheap team like us is reluctant to make a closer a good chunk of our payroll for the next several years.

You are really, really gonna miss him when he is gone, and I think he will be gone this year for exactly the short term thinking expressed in your and other posts.

Guess the yanks should have jettisoned MR, that shitty one inning pitcher.

Agree Whopper... Braves need him long term. They should manage him correctly and bring him in during 8th inning in playoffs. He is too valuable to let go. I think back to some of the years where the 8th inning was a horror show every night, and no lead felt safe (Dan Kolb and Bob Wickman come to mind). Don't want to go back to that again.

Boy, do I disagree, Heyword is a sub 260 career hitter that averages under 20 HRs and under 60 RBIs a year.

Kimbrel is the best reliever in the game. We won't miss Heyword for a second. A lot of potential but short on results. I was hoping, praying we could get through the 8th in the last game vs the Dodgers to get to Kimbrel and bring it back home to Atlanta, but alas, couldn't get to him.

Heywood batted .167 in the series by the way.

Yeah, jettison Kimbrel and sign Heywood, oops they already did the latter. Dumb shits.

Batting average is never a good evaluater. He had horrible luck at the plate but his BABIP was still really high. He is also a Gold Glove fielder. Heyward's value is much higher than he is getting credit for. He gets on base alot and has good patience at the plate and was actually breaking out of the BABIP gods hate me slump before he got injured. Heyward is pretty damn good and we need him.

meh.. money clearly isn't everything, as made evident by TB's and Oakland's success. I fully expect Kimbrel and Heyward to be traded next offseason.
