The big money in NFL contracts is the 2nd contract. Not the first. If Chubb comes back next season not only does he risk the first contract but he also risks the 2nd. If he goes to the NFL, even if he is a 3rd rounder, he can still get a huge payday on the 2nd contract if he handles his business well.

Of course, his durability has already been shown to be questionable at the college level, so he may well not make it to a 2nd contract at the pro level. He'd best make hay while the sun shines.
