Ohio State beat TN in the first round last year 42-17, and the average margin of victory in the first round last year was around 20 points, and none of those matchups involved G5 teams.
In every sport across all levels of the NCAA, conference champions get spots in the tournaments, and that should continue.
The ACC falling flat on its face this year is what allowed two G5 champs in the field.
My preference would be 16 teams with the 10 conference champs getting autobids and the remaining six teams being at-large.
I don't want to see playoffs that are nothing more than regular-season rematches and that is nothing more than an SEC/Big10 Challenge.

so you think Duke deserved a spot in the playoffs?
Automatic anythings are completely stupid when it comes to postseason, unless it's something liek the NFL where there is a massive frickton of parity and the numbers of divisions and stuff are mathmatically in synch.
But that doesn't work for CFB

How anyone can look at the last 2 years of the playoff and think "ya know what we need to fix this? MORE TEAMS" is beyond me

well I hate to break it to you but with 16 teams that's exactly what we're going to get.

WG- side note, the Ring cam topic is fake, read up on good deeds on OT lounge and you'll see the joke. I don't even lock my doors where I live.

16 teams is a more balanced playoff system, since there aren't any matchups with the Fightin' Byes of Open Date University.
The goal, from the start, seems always to have been a 16 team playoff, and even then, it will still leaving people complaining on why some teams get left out.

Duke is the ACC champion. That's who they should send to the playoffs.
It doesn't matter what number you set; the whining is going to occur over the teams that didn't make it. I've seen the D-II field go from 16 to 24 to 28 to its current 32. FCS was 16 for the longest time. It's 24 now.
There is nothing anyone can say/write that is going to shake me from my opinion that conference champions should get autobids for as long as conferences exist. Nothing.
