Supposed to be on the water at 6am, but for whatever reason you both can't get to the ramp until 7:30 and by then there's a line, other boats are blasting off before you, heading to all the good spots, but you are finally on the water with wind in your hair by 8AM.

Buddy just bitches and complains all damn day -

"we really shoulda been here at 6."

"now the tides aren't right"

"yep, there's three boats on our spot. shite. I guess go to the next spot"

"We shouldn't have stopped at Bojangles, we could have limited out by noon and then eaten"

Despite the fact you both limit out by 1 oclock and head in-

"Sucks that it took so long to limit."

"Probably would have caught some bigger ones too if we were there at 6. and got to fish where we wanted"

"Great weather conditions, kinda feel like we wasted the day though"

"Hell by the time we're all cleaned up and fish cleaned it's gonna be 5 oclock"

Fish get cleaned, boat gets cleaned, shite gets put away, humans get cleaned, it's 5 oclock. Fryer gets sparked up about 5:30. Family and friends gather. Beers are being opened at an accelerated pace.

"Damn we gotta plan better next time. We gotta get out there at 6 or just not even go."

is the guy constantly bitching about not being there at 6 the reason you weren't there at 6? Or was he waiting an hour half on you?

For the purposes of this story, say it's both their faults. They stayed the night together at one of their houses, and both woke up late and didn't have their shite together because they both stayed up too late drinking the night before.

Best keep your decoys out of my spot, son. Plenty of water out there.

My dad made sure this never happened to us. We always got out there early enough not to worry about waiting in line. You gotta get out there right before or right at the beginning of sunrise.

Why would anyone know "your spot." Never, ever disclose this information to anyone and never let anyone see you go to it or your next spot. But of course it depends on if you're fishing fresh or salt water.

Never had any problems with tides not being right. We used to look up the tides days ahead of time.

Never stopped for breakfast. Ate on the way with coffee. Lunch in the cooler on the boat.

Any decent fisherman knows that the best time to catch is when the sun comes up or is going down and I was taught never to fish with a full moon.

We were always back at the boat ramp by 11am.

If you were the one providing the boat and ride, then your buddy shouldnt bitch. It takes a bit of time to get all that shite ready to go. Anyone who would bitch like that to me would never go with me again.

My father is also still living. The best thing he ever did for me as a parent, besides staying with the family through highs and lows, and earning money and supporting us like a father should, was teaching me to fish. That, and playing Munson on the radio with the TV muted as I played around on the floor during the Herschel Walker years.

Sounds just like my dad. Old man worked hard for us through the years and gave us everything he and my mom could give. I thank God for him being my dad. Couldnt have asked for better parents.

For years and years, we would watch the game on TV with it muted while he listened to Munson on the radio. We Listened to Munson until the end of his career.

How is your dad? I seem to recall he was seriously ill a few years ago.
