I am going to try that next....because, I took it to a company in Snellville who ran free diagnostics, scanners, etc. and found no problems. Surprised me, I assumed free diagnostic would always find something to charge you for. So now I am thinking may be it is something with the WIFI configuration with this particular laptop, as my other computer (this one) works just fine. Stay tuned, I pick it up on Friday.

Do you still have the OS disc that came with the computer? Or at least a serial number? A fresh install of windows might be a reasonable step very soon if you think you can pull it off.

So I got it back from the computer place that could find nothing wrong with it. I started tinkering with the network connections. I finally ran the diagnostic thing. It said it resolved an issue with "remote gateway accessibility" or something like that. Now it seems fine (knock on wood). Of course I haven't used it much yet, but so far so good.

You have shitty hardware. Consumer grade processors and motherboards aren't designed to last more than 2 years because of how competitive pricing is in the retail market.
Your problem machine was a bottom of the line price point when you bought it almost 5 years ago, correct?
Throw it in a ditch after you get your data off while you still can.
