I really thought Kirby would bring Bobo back to Athens. I felt Bobo would have been a huge upgrade . However, I am thrilled by the Monken hire. Would you rather have had Bobo back or Monken?

Monken. Different scheme. We needed to change who we were imo.

Other than the "home town boy" factor, I was never thrilled about the Bobo to OC idea. He had a few good years as OC here, but he is as old school as it gets, at least when he was here.

Same. People forget the Carlton-Thomas-up-the-middle years.

And the other people forget the record setting years after the Carlton Thomas years. Which is weird to me.

Monken. Bobo is good, not great. Bobo also does not emphasize spread which is a must. Not interested in I-formation with fullback and TE being a staple of our offense any more. Which is what he will be bringing to South Carolina by his own words.

Bobo has always been multiple with formations. I hope Monken is great and I'm much more excited for this hire than the Coley promotion but I would take the known Bobo over the unknown. Unreal recruiter, can score big in the SEC, and is a DGD.

I see two people who don’t know football downvoted your post.

Monken and it's not close for me.

I was never one of those "fire Bobo" guys, and I freely admit he was very good when he was here. I just think it's sometimes harder to recapture the magic than create it anew.

Also, I believe Smart will be forced to give a guy like Monken more autonomy to run his offense than he would a guy like Bobo. No way Monken would have agreed to come here without assurances of getting to call the shots especially considering the dysfunctional HC/OC relationship he is just now leaving.

Monken. I actually know the Bobos personally. Lainie Bobo is as fine a human being as has ever walked this earth. I loved Mike as qb here and thought he brought a toughness to the Mark Richt O's that Richt naturally lacked. Bobo was a damn good OC for uga.

I hate to see Mike at USC and i have no earthly idea what's gonna happen with monken. but bringing the 97 team and roomates back together as coaches just sounds too good to be true and is a recipe for heartbreak and butthurt. as my granny used to say, you can never go back.

so good luck to mike 11/12 games. Lainie you are still the bomb, wish you were back in Athens. Kirby you gonna sink or swim with Monken. I'm skeptical but hope with all my heart i am wrong.

Exactly! No more mindset of how the 1980 National Championship was won

So, what is Bobo's secret medical issue?

One reason for this is so many HS QB's never go under center. When Fromm got here, he had never put his hands on a man's taint in his life. There was an interview where he said that was the weirdest adjustment for him at this level, having to get "familiar" on timing and everything else, as a grown man, having not grown up doing it. Not just the taint part, but the whole mechanic of a drop-back.

So say you are a mid-major 8 win team running spread to help even the playing field against the tougher opponents on your schedule, your new QB comes in and has never been under center, but everything else about his game gives you hope that he might give you an amazing year, has legs, great arm, loves to work.... you only have X number of hours of facetime with him because of the NCAA, do you spend alot of those hours trying to get him comfortable under center or do you spend those precious hours making him even better at what he's already good at?

I'm not trying to start an argument, I'm just saying there're reasons alot of teams don't go under center much.

Monken is unknown? Bobo is not even close to him as an offensive mind.

Monken.

He should draw the attention of 5* WRs & QBs bc GA gonna start slinging that ball. We bout to score a lot more points/game. And with our defense, 2020 gonna be a good year.
