I know that he pulled Pickens on the next play after he drew a penalty, but did anyone else notice that he did that throughout the game, this week?

I recall CMR having to resort to that, 10 years or so ago, because we were one of the worst in CFB for penalties.

I guess the question is - does that approach work?

You should do it but not to the point it hurts the teams chances.

Some guys have tough assignments and just screw up.

I can't think of the running back that got into Richts doghouse in the UF game and got benched though he was the only rb having success that day. Richts pompousness.

Players get pulled to the sidelines a lot for penalties.

Sometimes it is to get talked to.
Sometimes to cool down.
Sometimes to help get past that play and ready for "the next one" a play ot 2 down the road.

Other to regain their composure, I don’t see how benching a player for committing a penalty works. It appeared Kirby was coaching up Pickens when he pulled him out.

It usually depends on the penalty, too. If it is a mental error, most coaches go bananas. If it is aggressive (as long as not flagrantly awful...like hitting a player well after a play) they usually will accept that and drive on.
