Out of curiosity, what’s the logic of running a read play where you leave the backside defender unblocked when it’s either a hard give or hard keep? That seems like unnecessarily running the risk of a negative play.

If I were playing UGA, I would coach the backside to assume the give and crash every time because Beck rarely pulls it. UGA is asking a lot of their RBs to expect to even get back to the LOS if that’s the case.

Beck is not athletic enough to beat a team, they could live on committing to the back.

Stetson was different.

They came away from running the zone that way and started using jet action to hold that backside guy which worked.

That makes sense, but I don’t understand why they ever thought the original way might work. Seems like a pretty weird failure to self-scout.

If you recall the goal line stand of like 7 plays that Florida made against us in 2018, I think 3 or 4 of those plays Fromm could have moon walked into the end zone because the backside end was the one making the tackle on Swift.

We did this shite all the time with Bennett. He only pulled it in critical moments. Drove me nuts

All of this pining for a mobile quarterback, but does anyone here actually think that we'd be better off with Vandagriff as our quarterback this season?

Carson Beck is the best quarterback we've ever had imo. It'll probably be like Stetson Bennett in that Beck won't be fully appreciated until he's gone.

Back half of last season Beck, yes. So far this season Beck, no.

That’s why you do it. Every once in a while on a critical down you’ll catch them sleeping

Beck can also run RPO or a PA pass from this set up. I am also sure they will green light Beck to keep in a key moment. The back side guy won’t typically blow up the play on the run, but can definitely take away any chances of delaying waiting for a hole to develop.

Beck's long ball seems to be his fatal flaw. He seems competent, but maybe not as explosive as you'd hope for someone with his style and playing QB this long.

If we are going to win a Championship, the ball has to stay off the turf far more than it is currently. He needs to have more touch and the receivers need to catch the dang ball.

Seems every TE we have is a bust.

This isn’t worth it imo. If Carson is only going to keep it 1/20 times, we’re going to be eating a lot of negative running plays to get the one-off 15 yard gain. If I’m the opposing DC, the risk of Carson running for 15 yards once per game is negligible when compared to the upside of getting UGA behind the sticks consistently by crashing the backside defender every time.

Beck is elite at throwing receivers open and throwing into windows. We might go another 20 or 30 years and not have another Georgia quarterback who does it as well as Beck.

But you're right about Beck's touch on deep passes. It seems like there's exactly 1 pass per game that Beck misses that would've been a touchdown. I think that's the reason why Georgia fans weren't universally "frick YEAH, Carson Beck is coming back" when he announced he was coming back instead of "that's probably good."

That backside defender won’t usually make the play though

I get the feeling that Bama may beat us by 7pts+ unless we play inspired.

In the tunnel they looked disinterested and on the field there was no emotion.

Beck’s eyes also looked like he didn’t really want to be there

I will take up for Beck here, he is the executor of Kirby and Bobos will and the rest of the O looks to him.

Its best that he is workmanlike and just keeps chopping. Can't let the last one affect the next onw.

He needs to be more a leader imo

Stetson had “it” Beck doesn’t
