Hey BeefDawg, nice to see you're still kicking!

Hey buddy! Yeah I’m about 10 weeks post surgery now and sitting around bored out of my mind. Reading books and binge-watching TV shows. Have a couple more surgeries to go and about 8-10 months more of recovery. I’ll likely frequent here often while I’m down, just not participating much.

Hope everything goes smooth. you've been in our thoughts and prayers.

What happened? I didn't get the memo.

quote:Rare tumor in my upper jaw. Wasn’t noticeable, but something was causing me to get root-canal after root-canal. And finally a biopsy done and turned out I had a tumor only 40 people are known to have ever had. Like tentacles that strangled off blood flow to my maxilla bone and teeth. To remove it they had to basically carve out the entire roof of my mouth and upper jawbone, teeth up to orbitals. Then they (Emory oncology surgeons) took the fibula from my left leg, surrounding tissue, and the artery and vein, and along with a titanium plate pretty much reconstructed my entire upper jaw and maxilla, while connecting the artery and vein to my corroded and another vein in my neck.
What happened? I didn't get the memo.
Pretty amazing stuff. But it’s about a 10-12 month process and a couple more surgeries before I can get implants/veneers, which is a whole additional process with 3-5 months downtime.
Can’t tell you how freaking bored I am, but there’s not a lot I can do for a while. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy. Already beyond sick of the liquid diet and being unable to workout. If I see another Ensure after this I’ll probably put them on a fence post for target practice. But, at least I’m cancer-free and the tumor is gone. And I think this will make me stronger in the end.

I appreciate it. It is what it is at this point. Couple of insanely fricked up years for everyone, not just me. Just have to endure and aspire.

Good luck to you. I'm sure you're wife is taking good care of you. Follow your doctor's instructions. Emory is a good place to be taken care of.

Thanks. Yeah she’s been a godsend. Thank god she’s a nurse. I have no idea how anyone could go home with this and not have professional help. And my doctor says his department does 2-3 of these types of surgeries every week (between 6 doctors in this particular department).
For the first 2 weeks I was still breathing with a tracheotomy and taking food through an NG tube, and that was at hone after spending 10 days at Emory.
I’d show you guys my leg wound, but I think some of you might get sick. LOL
