Imagine if you will a world where next year, CJ Allen is gone, Raylen Wilson transfers because he kinda gets beaten out by Justin Williams and Chris Cole. Cool. Those 2 are studs. Now say one of them gets injured. Tyler Atkinson at that point would be a plug and play, see no drop-off, level guy as a freshman. He’s the best ILB coming from HS since idk when. Literally the only thing he doesn’t have is college strength/ body weight. Everything else he’s elite. Instincts. Diagnosis. Speed. Can rush off the edge on occasion. Calls the defense. He’s really damn good. Normally I’d agree with you but this isn’t just missing an ILB as if we didn’t land some Jamon Dumas Johnson level guy.

He’s referring to 2027 LaDamian Guyton. Guy from south ga who all thought was an early lean to us is being bombarded with money by Texas Tech.

I really like James Johnson and a few pieces in this class. Johnson reminds me of Brown from AU. I suspect he’ll climb up the rankings big time. If and when that happens, we better be ready to fight like hell.

I was being facetious. Maybe Walker is ready then; maybe he isn’t. Atkinson would be. I’m more confident in that than I am Walker.

He’s a five star player who will have two years on Atkinson in the system. He was giving a worst case scenario and I was asking about Walker. I’m not saying he’s going to start right now

Roquan and Nakoba weren’t ready as true freshman. If Atkinson is then he will be the best of those three. That’s some high praise.

Guyton I worry less about right now just because there’s a lot of time left in that recruitment and the state of GA itself is loaded with good edge rushers.
Also of note, Texas’s stud LB is entering his last year before being eligible for the draft, and while they recruit well, they don’t have the talent we have on our roster behind him. In other words, Atkinson won’t have an entrenched starter to beat out to earn playing time as a freshman
