A 25 point favorite to open the season with no spring practice and a brand new offense scheme (maybe not so brand new but hopefully tweaked somewhat) seems like a lot of points to be giving up....

Tennessee
Tennessee is going to be good. Pruitt has done a really good job of recruiting at positions of need. Their OLine and LBs are really good. Their main question mark is a big one, though. QB.

I would say the first 3 games are a cakewalk but it's why we play the games...
Auburn and Tennessee are going to be good. Neither will be cakewalks. Either could beat us.

Gus' AU teams are always late bloomers who finish alot better than they start. Yes that could be said for all teams but especially Auburn. Tactically, it is better to have them early.

I hope you are right. It does seem as if I have seen posts by Auburn fans saying it takes Gus awhile to get going.

Auburn? They lost a ton of experience on both LOS plus the secondary. They lost a total of about 12 Sr starters (how the hell they pull that off is another story)
We got em at home and they also don't have
the luxury of an off week this year as well.
UT did seem to improve over the course of the season... obviously no where to but up after losing to GSU.They still weren't impressive vs Indiana.

And they recruit very well. I mean, they did lose a ton. but they have a lot of players coming back that are good, too. their DLine, I think will be weaker, although they return Truesdell, Bryant and Miller, so i don't think the dropoff will be as great as some believe....a dropoff? Yes. A STEEP dropoff? no.
But I actually think their RB unit will be better. I was not a Whitlow fan, and DJ Williams will be an upgrade, imo. Tehy have recruited at WR very well.
For Auburn I think the key is going to be how much Nix progresses. They have really, really good LBs returning and their secondary will be solid, if not spectacular. Are we better? i think so. I do believe we win the game, but I do not believe it will be a cake walk.
quote:And this is a great point, too. I mean they are a bit more difficult to read. tehy have a lot of talent at key positions.....but their "improvement" came against weaker opponents, so they are harder to gauge. Their Oline is great, though....or should be. Not having Cade Mays will hurt them, but they have two 5* OTs that will be sophomores. Pruitt is a defensive mind and will have the defense going well, imo. But their QB is a question mark and I'm not real sure what they have at WR.

Hey...you guys might be right. I am just going by what I think.

What are everyone's plans about attending games this year? Are you still gonna go to the ones you get tickets for or just watch from home?

Sure, not much of a choice with the losses they sustained.

I don't recall Miller being much of a factor at all last year.Did he start any games?
quote:Maybe not "steep" but close to it.They lost the best DL in the history of the program and 3 year starter plus a very underrated Marlin Davidson.Brown was the most dominant defensive player in the SEC last year.He was the sole reason their game with LSU was even close last year... unbelievable performance.
dropoff? Yes. A STEEP dropoff? no.

It is very good unit and one of the top 3 in the conference.

Rarely a cakewalk but I'm more confident than I was last year.

It should be a strength but you need talented upper classmen for the most part to be a factor in the SEC and I have no worries about our DL vs their OL...we'll see.

Probably didn't start any. (I'm not sure, really) but played a decent amount of time and was a highly rated recruit. So, he has the potential, and Auburn typically does a good job developing their DLinemen.
quote:There is not doubt they lost a great DLine. It'll be interesting to see what they do and how they react to those losses. i really believe they have solid to really good talent there still, though. BUT, that is just a feeling, although a feeling based upon recruiting and past performance of their developing along the DLine.

Agreed 100%. But....were they good because they were really that good, or were they good because their past DLine was able to keep oppossing OLines off of them so they could roam free and make plays? I think they are just good. We'll know more soon.
quote:I'm not sure, but I am always wary of Auburn. I always expect them to be a close, hard fought game. It's strange, though, that is seems even when they have a superior team we find a way to come out on top. Reminds me of how our Florida games were a few years ago.
Rarely a cakewalk but I'm more confident than I was last year.
quote:On board with you here. I really like what we have done with our DLine. I do think we win, and possibly by 14 or more, but I just felt cake walk was a bit extreme.

They have top 3 talent for sure. But they are young. Of course, the DL has an impact. But they got good experience last season and will get more experience with each game. We will have to gameplan for the linebackers. I dont have a doubt in my mind.
