I think part of the problem is we took too many combo guys and the true corners we took haven't worked out for whatever reason. Kendall Sheffield's father got his panties in a wad because he wasn't given the starting job last year so he transferred. Now he's not starting for Ohio State.

I am really excited for what I'm seeing out of Smart and Tucker's work with our DBs.
Tucker did wonders for our DBs in 2015.

I've heard similar, but I don't think he's been making many trips period since the season started IIRC. Towards the beginning of the season he was actively working with UM guidance around programs/classes/etc according to one of the UM insiders on another board. So more than simply football discussions... I'm sure that happens elsewhere (lining up classes, making sure they've got what they need to get in, etc) but more than simple I like the football program kinds of discussions as well.
He didn't mention Miami the other day in an article I read, but he may be playing coy.

Sure hope we have a chance at him. Kid is special.
Yeah he is.

I'm noticing UGA and Bama aren't going head to head for many recruits these days. Maybe a gentlemen's agreement between the two.
I suspect all that changes for the 2019-20 classes.

Absolutely.
The Georgia in-state class for 2019 is downright ridiculous.

As much as we'd like to, we can't keep em all... you can have players ~25-50.

The entire Southeast is loaded with talent next year.
Mississippi might have their best class in a decade and Alabama may have 3 quarterbacks ranked in the Top 100.
It's gonna be a fun ride.

Only problem with that is there IS enough to go around... Ole Miss situation may mean that Miss St takes advantage... and/or LSU/Arkansas do some out of state poaching. If Alabama has that much going on, then Auburn likely to still do fine, and we've got damn near 3 teams worth of quality recruits in the state of Georgia. I guess one can only hope the shite shows continue at some of those schools so that the ones we can't keep decide to vacate the south altogether. Would prefer not to bleed any more talent into FSU/Clemson where we can help it.

We are gaining some steam with Robert Cooper No. 5 Overall DT in the nation
Committed to FSU at the moment but has UGA and Bama as tied for 2nd. States "Georgia has a little lead on Bama"
Definitely see playing time as a possibility sooner at UGA, and went on to say in this DawgNation Article...

I'm not on flip watch if he says "There is a slight chance with me for Georgia."
Posted on 9/29/17 at 10:01 am to ATLdawg25
Foot is in the door, he won't be signing until feb.
I'm not saying he's gonna flip in a month, just to keep an eye on the situation

Cooper is definitely on flip watch imo. I'd be shocked if he stayed with FSU and he's had a lot of good things to say about us over the last month or so.

from the Dawgnation article...

quote:
Cooper acknowledges that Georgia makes him feel like they need him the most. Those words do not come from a position coach or a coordinator. “I know I am needed at every school,” Cooper said. “That’s as far as Florida State, Alabama and Georgia. But Georgia makes it known to me the most right now.”Those come to him from head coach Kirby Smart.
“I hear from Kirby more than any head coach ever,” Cooper said. “Yeah. Coach Kirby".

Honestly, I'm surprised that they got all 3 of the guys they took last year at interior DL. They were already deep there. If Cooper goes to FSU, he's buried on the depth chart essentially at a singular position that is fairly situational as more or less a true NT. I can't find any defensive snap counts for college, but I see NTs in the NFL seem to max out at about 65% of the defensive plays with more coming in closer to 20-40%. Even if I assume there is a true NT on the field for 75% of plays which seems high, with the depth they have, he might see 10% of the snaps by his sophomore year and 25% by his junior year if he's lucky... so he'll have limited film and almost definitely have to stay until Sr or RSSr season. Come to UGA, the door is wide open to go earn the job...

Yep. Bo Nix. His father is former Auburn QB Patrick Nix. He just broke his ankle last week, but he's a stud.

Mississippi State appears to finally be taking advantage of the Ole Miss situation and currently holds a commitment from the #1 and #7 ranked kids in the state for 2019.
Two of the top 5 have gotten CBs to Alabama recently though.
The in-state class for Louisiana next year is absolutely loaded too. LSU should get more than half of their class without stepping outside of the state.
Arkansas may be breaking in a new coach if Bert doesn't turn tFlagship around in a hurry.
I agree on the FSU/Clemson statement. Keep those frickers out of our talent beds.

Piggybacking off my post above regarding the Class of 2019, here are the Composite rankings by state for the region (# of 4 and 5 star recruits):
Alabama: 1 5-star; 10 4-stars
Arkansas: 3 4-stars
Florida: 4 5-stars; 44 4-stars
Georgia: 5 5-stars; 35 4-stars
Kentucky: 6 4-stars
Louisiana: 2 5-stars; 13 4-stars
Mississippi: 1 5-star; 9 4-stars
Missouri: 5 4-stars
South Carolina: 4 4-stars
Tennessee: 20 4-stars
Texas: 5 5-stars; 34 4-stars
So in the Southeast alone next year we are going to have 18 5-star kids and 183 4-star kids.
And remember, this is based on the Composite. There are at least a dozen other kids who are a 4 or 5 star on individual services.
And they have another season of high school football to play.
ETA: One note on the number of 4-star kids in the state of Alabama for next year is the extremely low ranking of QB Paul Tyson. He had never started a varsity game until Game 1 of the season a few weeks ago and he has been on fire. He'll be a 4-star in the next round of updates. He is the great grandson of Bear Bryant too.

Dang. I thought we were going to have some kind of advantage with this in state class. Looks like several teams could load up.
