Where does Godwin end up on the depth chart? Will all 5 of his stars fit on the bench?

Godwin will be on the field and have a very good year, would be my guess. He will have some help. He has finished 2nd on the team in receiving yards two years in a row. Godwin's problems have been more about getting the ball to him than him dropping them. his stats could have been much, much higher if Eason had not focused on Nauta as much. Several times Eason threw the ball to Nauta underneath with a wide open Godwin down the field. That will be corrected with a better OLine and experience for Eason.

Because the comparison is a period of time, and not a coaching career.

It should be a career, though, because that is how you gauge how good a coach is. Not by a portion of his career, but by his entire career. If you want to say Richt did a bad job coaching from those years, that is one thing. But you keep saying he was not a good coach...or he was not a very good recruiter. Those are the statements people are taking exception to. Then you want to make your point by taking the worst years of his career.

Since coaches can improve or get worse during a career, its fair to compare specific time periods to each other. The difference in the success of the program between pre-Tebow and post-Tebow was stark and worth noting.

I hope so, seems like a great kid but he definitely seemed lost in the shuffle last year. Then there were a bunch of passive aggressive tweets from his mom all about "be you", "dont let any one tell you how to play your game" and stuff that made it seem like he may have been at odds with the staff.

Its a shame the program wasn't a championship caliber program after 2005. 2006-15 was painful, much more so after tasting what its like to be an elite program. Richt had great timing early with Spurrier leaving UF, but then Urban came and put us back in our place.

Richt was hired after he was fired from Georgia. Donnan was not.

Donnan could have had a job if he wanted a job, but he loved Athens enough to decide to stick around.

you seem to be ignoring that in the last 5 years it was doing better.

It did improve:

13th best winning % from 11-15.
21st best from 06-10.
5th best from 02-05.
12th best from 97-00.

Looks like we came full circle.

Last time I checked Mark Richt wasn't on our 2017 roster. Why are we having the 5,000,000,000th Mark Richt woulda coulda shoulda conversation in here?

Because it's a productive and entertaining way to pass the time during the boring season of the holidays.

We were. We were very much a "championship caliber" team in 2012, an darn near close in 2011.

Aren't you arguing that Donna was a good coach and Richt was not?

Neither of us are fired up and mad. It's just a way to pass time. My suggestion would be to avoid the thread.

Not at all. I am arguing 97-00 and 06-15 were very similar periods of underachievement.

We were close to one in 2012, but of course that was with some scheduling help from the SEC office. Disagree on 2011 team that went 0-4 vs teams that finished ranked. 2015 was a sign things were headed back towards the 06-10 level of play.

So get to it. I think the 2017 depth chart will be much better than the one Richt left Smart for 2016

No problem. Go ahead. We would be happy to discuss it with you. That talk had just about died out and we started talking about this. But, we would be happy, and relieved to talk about the depth chart. Is there anything in particular you wanted to talk about concerning the depth chart?

I agree. Smart did a great job of keeping the 2015 class together, and added some nice pieces, and this years class is going off the charts. if he can get his coaching abilities on the same level as his recruiting we will become the new Bama.

I brought up Godwin, as his place on the roster and the mold that he doesn't quite fit to me leaves his role semi up-in-the-air.

Also, QB. If we indeed want to redshirt Fromm and Ramsey transfers (no clue if this is an actual thing or not), who is doing mop-up duty? Any preferred walk-ons headed out way?
