We should have a full staff in place and a little over two months. I'd hardly say that the battle for Mecole is over or even close to being over. Don't forget, whoever we bring in is probably going to have some sort of relationship with him as does Kirby I'm sure.

To be honest, we are good in the secondary for atleast one year so if we don't get an impact player this year we'll be okay. The biggest priorities are QB, OL, and WR. Perhaps and OL coach, WR Coach , and OC will really give us a push in the recruitment of those positions.

Since Kirby traditionally had mid-size, heavier LBs at Bama I wonder where Zo Carter fits in? Also, I guess that means Brian Burns from American Heritage is no longer an option as a pass-rusher either. Just curious as I haven't heard anything about Burns lately.

Bama was recruiting Carter just as heavily as we were, so i imagine Kirby has a place for him regardless of size.

Also, Schumann stopped by and had a "good talk" with Auburn commit David Marshall this morning. Marshall fits the mold I was referring to in my previous post as he's 6'3" 256 lbs. A la Natrez Patrick, who should be a perfect fit for Kirbys LB mold.

If you listen to Bama fans they supposedly backed off after they got Hand committed. Not sure if that's accurate or not.

Do not want Marshall! Takes a lot of plays off. Let AU have him.

But Mecole was also quoted saying Alabama was already in his top 3 before Pruitt to Bama broke because "their defensive scheme plays mostly man coverage which suits his strengths better"...I wonder when he'll realize that Alabama scheme is being ran at Georgia now

What makes you think that? Aren't we hiring a DC? We will run the new DC's scheme, not Kirby Smart's.

Hah! That doesn't surprise me, but even if they "backed off", they were after him because of his abilities and fit in their scheme. No reason that still doesn't ring true for Kirby.

Under his "Player background" section now it says he's 6'4" 275lbs

That's a pretty big gain..might want to check him for whatever Grier took

That is just way too big for a LB. He would be able to occupy MLB and OLB simultaneously. We should get him and switch to a 3-3 defense.

As somebody that has watched nearly all of his games the last three years, he is unbelievably talented and clearly the best player on the field in any high school game he plays in.

We would be better off with him than without. I just don't know how likely that is at this point.

If I remember correctly, you know Mecole personally, don't you? I know someone on here has posted they they were acquaintances. Don't quite remember, but your name rings a bell.

I am very serious. Sure, Smart will have a say so....and, he might even find a DC that has a similar philosophy. But you guys are saying Hardman should stay with UGA because we are going to berunning Smart's defense. So tell me....did Smart run Saban's defense or his own? because if he ran Saban's, then why wouldn't Pruitt?

Or do you think Pruitt is going to change his scheme to fit Saban's? It just doesn't make sense. A good DC is going to run his own scheme....or why have a dedicated DC?

No. I would be shocked.

Pruitt has a certain way he does things. He will continue to do it that way. There is no use in having a DC if you are going to dictate how he does things. Pruitt will demand a certain amount (Read: total) autonomy. If not total, then he will pretty much do things the way he normally does them.

What you guys are saying is that really does not matter who the DC is, they will do things totally the way the HC tells them to do it. It's very easy to tell who on this board has played football in college or at a higher level and who has not.

Someone on 247 asked if anyone had heard something on Kirby's visit with Nauta last night. A bunch of posts followed with pictures of Nauta on his unofficial to Miami today, and then Rusty chimed in with a post that just says "Dawg".

Short and to the point, with good news to boot.

So... Pruitt goes into Saban's office and says "Listen here little man, I have more defensive knowledge in my left nut than you do in your entire midget body, now stay the hell away from my defense." Yeah that sounds like something Saban would be okay with.

Whoever Kirby hires as DC will have to accept him as a mentor, similar to how Saban was Kirby's mentor.
