I moved away 20 years ago, and I only get back once or twice a year.

I’m bringing a lady there in a few weeks (no pics). She’s really into food (works for Food Network) but she’s never been to New Orleans.

Help me plan a killer weekend. It’s going to be a quick trip

We arrive on a Saturday afternoon
We leave late Monday
Staying on Canal

Get to Cafe’ DuMonde early. It’s crowded by 8.

The market next to the cafe’ would be a great place for her to go shopping on Saturday.

Go bar hopping one night.

May want to edit your title to "a weekend in New Orleans for my woman". Only reason I suggest it is you might get better answers geared towards what she would like. Dueling piano bars, fancy restaurants, etc. I'd suggest cafe du monde, the river walk with a daquiri, then find something in the french market, and possibly frenchmans at night.

I’m assuming that she is relatively sophisticated about food (not a student intern at Food Network, lol):
—Go food hall hopping: the new Auction House market, St Roch market
—cocktails at Cure, followed by your favorite of the Freret St restaurant strip (Ancora)
—go out to Dong Phuong in NO East for bahn mi and meat pies (get takeout for a lakefront or city park picnic, if you choose city park you can have Morning Call beignets for dessert)
—Take her to local joints like Sals seafood on Barataria for crabs or crawfish, Guys poboys, or R&O in Bucktown
—Compere Lapin as Nina Compton is making the most interesting food in town right no w

Some awful suggestions here. Don't do court of two sisters, awful. August Sat. night. Commander's Palace for brunch Sunday morning. Get a po-boy at Johnny's and Barq's at Jonny's and go sit by the river and eat. Take her to city park. Eat breakfat at Ruby Slipper. Make reservations at August and Commander's now

Do not go to Court of Two Sisters, way overrated.

For Brunch, go to Le Pavillion, or breakfast at Windsor Court.

I also agree with the above. Sunday at Commanders is hard to beat.

Central Grocery for lunch one day is a good suggestion also.

One of my all time favorite dining experiences was there for their Jazz Brunch.

I've never had a beignette so when I go to NO in October I figure me and wife may as well go to cafe dumonde and get the real deal experience. I realize it's insanely popular and likely a big tourist spot..so is it going to be hella crowded 24/7? I guess what I'm asking is, is there any time of day where there won't be an hour long wait?

Go in the middle of the night and there shouldn't be a line.

During the day it's pretty much going to be a wait - just fluctuates on how long that wait is.

Absolutely do not do this.

It's a beignet....and the place is open 24/7. There are plenty of times when the wait is not an hour. Don't go at breakfast, and you should be fine. As an alternative, you can go up to City Park, visit the lovely (and free) outdoor sculpture garden, and then have beignets at the 24/7 Morning Call cafe (just out the back gate of the sculpture garden). I think Morning Call's coffee is better than CDM.

They are wildly over-rated so don't wait in line for one.

We went at 8am on a Monday to Cafe Du Monde. No line. No wait.

Locals don’t know what they are talking about. They don’t get up that early! Haha!

ate lunch here to past two days. Empanadas and Indian booths, FTW.

OP

If you're in the uptown or GD area make your way to Turkey and the Wolf or/both Steins market for lunch.

Antique gave some good recs on eats and I agree with everyone else that Court of 2 sisters is slightly overrated.

With so many great and way better options uptown and in the warehouse district why is your list compromised of French quarter food options.

Saturday night - August or Shaya followed by drinks at Sazerac or Courosel Bar.
Sunday - skip Cafe Du Monde and take a stroll through City Park and head to Morning Call for beignets and coffee. The beignets are better there.
Sunday Brunch - Commanders palace
Sunday Dinner - Peche
Monday - Atchafalaya for brunch.

Dinner at Sylvain

Close out a night at Bacchanal

Morning Call is no better than Cafe Du Monde, they are the same, fried dough with sugar. du Monde had the atmosphere, people watching, etc.
Morning Call is in a strip mall.
