Yet another gem from the Aggie. Pretty much a must win game for STL and he went nearly 6 without giving up a run before Ortiz took him deep. Ortiz has done that to lots of hall of famers. No shame in that. Bigger picture is he gave the Cards the start they absolutely needed. Swear to god, if I didn't know better, I would have thought it was a grizzled veteran Chris Carpenter out there, just the way they show up big in big games with balls of steel.

he has no idea he's supposed to feel pressure. He's just throwing and feeling it. It's the great thing about being 22. Either way, he's in a motherfrickingzone

There are some pitchers where it goes beyond this. They feel the pressure and it energizes them. He is like this. Pettitte was similar at a young age with the Yankees. They know the moment is big and they fricking love it. I really think Wacha has this. It isn't something that can be taught or learned, it just is.

You're right on about this. I still remember watching lefty Rick Ankiel be lights out untouchable during the regular season as a rookie. The spotlight of post season came along and he started literally hitting the batboy.

No doubt he just has that something special. Chris Carpenter had that for us too. Not sure if you caught the interview with him during the game about Wacha. Said they talked about almost exactly this. Some try to deny its high pressure. Some try to act as if it's just another game. Carpenter said both him and Wacha approach it differently. It IS a huge game. The stadium IS loud. The pressure IS intense. Accept it for what it is and take on that challenge. Meet it head on.

Yup. I love athletes like this regardless of the sport

I really didn't think that Michael had his best stuff last night. In particular, his change was all over the place, and there didn't seem to be the normal change in velocity between that and his fast ball.

That having been said, he bulldogged his way through 6 innings. 114 is a high pitch count for a guy like Wacha who normally attacks the strike zone relentlessly. Hey, the kid got a little run support and a 'W'!

He definitely wasn't as sharp as the past few outings but he still looked pretty damn good. I think this series goes deep so I'm sure he will be on the mound again

The fact that he wasn't as sharp with his control and still battled his way through the sox lineup, in the World Series, like he did was more impressive to me than when he's completely locked in. Loved it.

I've been a die hard Yankees fan since my dad told me I had to be, so I'm rooting hard for the cardinals.

Yeah, the homerun to Ortiz didn't even bother me that much. The walk before it is what spelled trouble. Then he fell behind in the count to too many batters, including Ortiz. But like you said, those kind of guys have the ability to just battle through it. The kid is special. No question.

A Cards win tonight with Wainwright puts Wacha on the bump with a chance to clinch it. I'm more confident in Wacha sealing the deal than I am of Wainwright getting a win tonight. Gig 'Em.

Wacha gonna have to just keep us alive and pass it to Kelley now. Apparently the Red Sox have been throwing Bob Gibson against us every game.

I'm sure you're pissed but as a neutral fan I can't wait to see how he responds with his back against the wall. I have a feeling he will come out with another gem but we will see.

Kid loves the pressure. He did great the last time the Cards' season was on the line. Wacha Flocka Flame has got this.

Naw, I don't get pissed until it's all over and we lose. Baseball is a crazy game.

I really think we're going to see him answer the call tomorrow. The bigger question I have is will he get any support. 1 run might just be enough for him.

Well shite. Kid had a rough game. Sucks but I think St Louis has a lot to look forward to. This kid is gonna have a great career. Excellent season for him and the Cards.
