Liucci

As you've seen throughout the past few days, the Aggies have taken their 2019 linebacker search national and plan to scour the country for elite-level help at the position.

On Sunday, Tim Brewster decided that simply recruiting the continental 48 wasn't quite thorough enough, as the Ags extended an offer to Honolulu, Hawaii standout Maninoa Tufono. The 6-3, 225-pounder from powerhouse Punahou High School is drawing interest from across the country but actually reached out to the Aggies recently. He's very interested in playing in the SEC so will be one to watch over the course of the upcoming cycle. Current offer least features pretty much the entire Pac-12, A&M, Florida, LSU, Notre Dame, Texas and several other big-name programs.

Little to no doubt in my mind that we're going to see Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies ink a couple of out-of-state linebackers who go four stars or better in 2019.

In my opinion, the fact that Tufono actually reached out to the Ags makes this one worth mentioning in a separate post. He's as good as you're going to find in the country this year.

ERICK YOUNG

Texas recently extended an offer to four-star defensive back Erick Young, and safeties coach Craig Naivar has been hard at work in this recruitment. With that said, Young has no firm plans to visit Texas, and it’s clear Texas A&M is the team to beat early on. Young loved his recent visit there and is best friends with Wolfe.

I caught up with him and a few others this weekend at a 7-on-7 event.

What he's hearing from UT:
"Texas, I think I'd play safety if I go. They're recruiting me for safety. It doesn't matter, I'll play corner or safety. I'm playing safety right now."

From talking to him I didn't get the sense Texas was high up on his list of interests and him being such good friends with new Aggie commit Bobby Wolfe won't help. He wasn't anti-Texas, though.

Bobby Wolfe

He has much better feet than I anticipated. I described a little of what I saw in the tweet below. Texas did offer but Wolfe recently committed to Texas A&M. We’ll see if that changes. Bobby did say that he still plans on taking visits, including to Texas. I’ll check on whether he will be at next weekend’s Texas jr day.

It’s going to be really tough to flip Brian Williams and Bobby Wolfe from Texas A&M. Both prospects seem really locked in, and Wolfe made it clear that A&M’s lack of depth in the secondary is something that really caught his attention. The two were recruiting hard for the Aggies throughout the weekend.Williams actually stayed over at the home of elite wide receiver recruit Arjei Henderson during his time in Houston this weekend. Williams is working hard on Henderson, who has Texas A&M in his top group. However, Texas is in that same top group for Henderson. He is originally from Austin and has called Texas his dream school on several occasions.

Grant Gunnell

According to a source, Texas A&M quarterback commit Grant Gunnell is very much exploring options, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see him part ways with the Aggies in the near future. If that happens, we are told Texas A&M will make a strong push for the aforementioned Roschon Johnson. Remember, Jimbo Fisher checked in on him before the dead period. However, we don’t expect Johnson to waver at this time.

Marquez Beason

Texas was thought to be the team to beat for elite athlete Marquez Beason as recently as a few weeks ago. However, Texas A&M is making a strong push for Beason and made a huge impression on his recent visit. Teammate Brian Williams is in his ear on a daily basis, and Beason is impressed with the new coaching staff as well as the idea of playing in the SEC. Texas has some work to do here.

Jordan Whittington

Elite athlete Jordan Whittington is set to make a decision on March 3 and is down to Texas, Texas A&M and UCLA as we reported this weekend. From what we have been able to gather, Texas is still the team to beat in this race. However, Texas A&M made up plenty of ground this weekend and is making things very interesting. Texas still needs to push hard over the next couple of weeks.

He's going to take visits and we could lose him this spring. Have no idea why and I'm tired of his flippant back-and-forth, as we aren't fricking around this year and spots are going to start filling up QUICK. That being said, even if he leaves, he will probably come back into the fold and end up an Ag. We would also try to flip that dual-threat QB out of Port Neches as a backup, or possibly go national.

But I'm losing interest in him. We have much larger priorities to be a complete team, including building an ELITE OL, five-star backfield, and shutdown defense. All significantly larger priorities for Jimbo.
