Sorry TeLeFaWx, you are just wrong. Sure, if you look at the last decade the Texas/OU rivalry was heated but if you go back to the '80s and '90s it was NASTY. There was nearly a riot that broke out in '95 when they rushed Kyle and tried to tear down the goalposts. Back when my Dad was in school a couple sips died trying to fly a plane to bomb Bonfire when the crashed. We branded their steer. We stole their mascot at least half a dozen times and invited them to a BBQ.
As for sabotage, you clearly don't remember the '80s and '90s. You think it was a coincidence that we got on probation BOTH times we won 3 SWC Titles in a row? Both times it was stared by investigations by the DMN who had a sip editor. They essentially told us if we didn't fire Jackie that they would give us the death penalty just like SMU. Jackie kicked their arse and took names and didn't apologize for it and hey could never handle that. They knew he would win a NC and soon if he wasn't stopped. We owned the recruiting in this state by the time he was forced out. and if you think Jackie was doing anything different than the rest of the SWC you are naive. Maybe you don't remember Charles Allan Wright. He essentially wrote the book on NCAA infractions and headed the committee forever. Even after he left he was involved in every investigation and punishment until his death. Texas has openly paid players forever. In the 70s they even got busted with half of their team having fake jobs with the State that they got paid on but Wright made it all go away. Yet they went after every school in the state that ever started to win, especially A&M. It goes back farther than that as well, Texas got the NCAA to investigate us back in the '50s and helped to get us on probation that cost us going to the Cotton Bowl after '56 when we won the SWC.
Texas didn't "get us in the AAU". The real story is how it took as long as it did because they didn't advocate for us until they were forced to. A&M has had a monster research spend and endowment for a LONG time and the folks in Austin didn't help us until we were finally able to apply enough political pressure on them. Rice helped us as much as Texas did.
Texas kept us from getting a law school until this year. They did everything they could to keep us as a small cow college. They forced us into the 2/3 vs 1/3rd split on the PUF fund. They have been sticking it to us every day and every way they could since the beginning. They screwed us politically in the '90s when we built Reed and delayed it forever with their control of the Higher Education Board and once it was built it wasn't nearly as nice as what we needed. They would have kept us in G Rollie forever for basketball if they could. In the past they used their power over the other smaller schools in the state to keep us from ever having enough critical mass to challenge them.
Texas has only wanted to work with A&M in the past so long as A&M did exactly what they wanted us to. That is why things are finally different now. A&M has built itself up as an academic institution that is every bit as strong and in many ways stronger than Texas. The SEC move is the big game changer athletically though. Now they finally can't control us. Now we are strong enough to tell them to suck it. Now we have the mighty force of the SEC at our back should they try and mess with us regarding the NCAA.
I honestly don't think the magnitude of events such as the Dan Branch meeting that never was can be understated. Texas actually fears us politically now. Perry has appointed the entire BoR at Texas now. We control the Senate Finance Committee Chair and the incoming Chair. Both of the likely candidates to replace Dewhurst as Lt Governor are Aggies. We are getting the funding and the muscle now, it's just a different day.
I could go on for days about what the sips have done to screw us over the decades. The most disgusting part is their smug "holier than thou" attitude while they have done it.

Other than your logical arguments are wrong?
This probably should be it's own thread honestly. Not going to hijack this one any more other than to say there is no more money to an extra conference game. If you want to continue to debate that I can outline why but let's do so in a thread about the SEC and scheduling rather than the sips

Here's a funny story:
During our spring FTX (Spring 2000) my senior year, we were OC'ing (if you will) the MS3's from our region. This includes A&M, tu, SMU, Houston, PVA&M, SHSU, etc.
Anyways, the only individuals that pulled CADET rank out there? Sips.
One particular sip got very forcefully put in his place by one of my buddies. Since not all zips that are Army Contract graduate on time, many are MS3's instead of MS4's their senior year. The first brigade commander, Vince Mucker '00, was one of them.
One of the sips who wore 1 diamond threw a shite fit because Vince didn't salute him or call him sir. When Vince and I were on a first name basis there, he got even more irate. I warned the guy, "Here, we're all the same rank. You don't want to push this." but he thought he knew better.
Knowing EXACTLY what was going to happen, I just watched, smiling the entire time:
As this idiot starts ranting and raving about how he was senior and that he was entitled to x and y due to his rank, Vince pulled out his 3 diamonds and simply asked "so what does this entitle me to then"? (in actuality what he said was, "I guess that means you should be calling ME sir then, right?")
Needless to say, that sip didn't say another word the rest of the exercise.

Only knew one officer from THE Ohio State University who I met at advanced camp...he didn't make it to Captain due to either fraternization or a DUI...forgot which.

Do. Not. Want.
I could give a shite about Texas and I live in Austin surrounded by those dbags.

aggressor is 100% correct in all comments. Please read and reread. Very accurate assessment.
This. A&M told Branch that he can have his hearing, but he can't keep us from doing what's best for the university. That was the first time I've ever been glad that the state's contribution to higher ed is in the toilet.

When I drive south on the Tollway and see Dan Branch's name make me vomit. frick that noise. I spammed the frick out of his Twitter and started tons of TexAgs threads to mimick me. It shows how arrogant they have gotten, and how thoroughly mistaken they are. I'm glad that tiny douche exists, it personifies tu bitchness, and Aggie greatness.

One sidenote that is not a coincidence. Dan Branch works for Winstead PC as an attorney in Dallas. The Sr Partner and Chairman Emetrius at Winstead in Dallas is Mike Baggett who is a hard core Aggie and former Yell Leader. Dan apparently also got HEAVY pressure from his big donors in Dallas that also include a number of Aggies. Rest assured, Dan isn't going to try and screw with A&M anymore.
As I said, our amount of power in the Legislature right now is by far the greatest it has ever been. We just need to keep it just like it is, nice and subtle. The sips also have a real problem power wise because most of their young pols are Democrats and thus have very little power. A&M isn't going to go out of its way to screw Texas but we certainly aren't going to be pushed around by them again anytime soon.

I think Dodds would rather wear a maroon suit and drive a maroon car than play A&M in the Cotton Bowl.
He will do everything he can to avoid it.
