Either that or not until Sumlin finishes his contract in 2019. Hate to disrupt all those great 7-5 and 8-4 seasons!!!

At this point, frick yes

You've gone erratically to both ends of the dial and will probably be moving again. I'm just going to stop responding since it's clear you're chippy.

Yup.

Because what you want will only have us looking for a new coach in 4-5 years.

You didn't live through the Big 12 Slocum years.

Slocum should have been fired after the shite show that was the 1996 season, but the players overcame his putrid coaching. The 7-year extension after the 1998 season caused him to become lazy, going 29-19 with no conference or division titles immediately following.

We fired Slocum because his CEILING after 1998 was 8-4. We currently have one of his disciples.

Sumlin is 3-2 vs. Dan Mullen
Sumlin is 2-2 vs. Hugh Freeze
Sumlin is 1-4 vs. Nick Saban
Sumlin is 0-5 vs. Les Miles
Sumlin is 2-2 vs. Gus Malzahn

vs. Mullen and Bielema, Sumlin is 8-2.

vs. everyone else in our division, Sumlin is 3-11. Until he can consistently win against opponents not named Arkansas, how he does against Alabama is completely moot.

For the last time; I'm NOT defending Sumlin.

But when you examine the availability of potential coaches out there, it's clear that none of them are a good fit for us. I'm willing to give Sumlin a year (because he won't be doing better than 7-5) and then looking at potential coaches. If Sumlin surprises us and does good, then that great. If not, then at least then we would hopefully have a better pool of candidates.

Who knows. Maybe by then we will know if Chad Morris is the real deal.

That's great, but I wasn't around in 1996. If there were great candidates available after the 1996 season, then I would have probably agreed with you then to fire Slocum. But I wasn't there and I don't know who we could have hired, so I don't know what to tell you. But what I can tell you is that there are no viable candidates out there for us and too much competition (LSU and Texas will also be money whipping coaches). I'd rather sit out this coaching carousel and give Sumlin the extra year. If it pans out, that's great. If not, that's great as well.
