Sumlin has underachieved every season but one.
Les Miles' WORST seasons were 8-5.

Miles would bring a recruiting staff in, probably retain Chavis, and would find an up-tempo offensive coordinator.

He still underachied. Period.
You want to complain about underachieving, fine by me. But don't suggest a guy who also underachieves and is so stubborn that he wouldn't change his offensive approach. The difference between Sumlin and Les quite frankly is that Les inherited a defense and was able to maintain it. Sumlin didn't.

Let's examine recruiting, shall we?
Has Sumlin EVER outrecruited Miles?
2016 - Nope (LSU - 3, A&M - 18)
2015 - Nope (LSU - 6, A&M - 11)
2014 - Nope (LSU - 2, A&M - 5): Even in Sumlin's pinnacle of recruiting, Miles still ate his lunch
2013 - Nope (LSU - 6, A&M - 9)
2012 - Nope (LSU - 14, A&M - 16)
The closest Kevin Sumlin ever came to Les Miles was a class he inherited.

Seriously?! You want to be picky about being a few spots every year behind Les? The difference in talent is not much.
Besides, this just makes Les look just as bad as Sumlin. Why do you want to hire Sumlin 2.0? You want to rinse and repeat, but that's insanity.

Watching LSU play defense tonight, I'd beg for talent like that. We can figure out the offense.

Should we post the scores and records during that time as well. It's not even close.

But then you'd just bitch about the offense and we would be looking for another HC in 4-5 years.

So fire one mediocre coach for another?
Sounds like a terrible plan.

Going into depth a little further
2012 classes (4/5 star players):
Texas A&M - 9 (2 quit, 1 transferred, 2 arrested/never played, 1 in the NFL)
LSU - 11 (1 was an A&M legacy, 2 in the NFL)
2013 classes:
Texas A&M - 14 (1 injury retirement, 2 kicked off team, 6 transferred)
LSU - 19 (1 in the NFL, 1 transferred)
2014 classes:
Texas A&M - 14 (1 transferred, 1 injury retirement, 1 kicked off team)
LSU - 16
2015 classes:
Texas A&M - 14 (2 transferred, 1 injury retirement)
LSU - 13
2016 classes:
Texas A&M - 8
LSU - 18

Look at LSU's record under Miles. Hardly mediocre.
Sumlin is 1-8 against LSU and Bama. And then 3-5 against OM,MSU, and Auburn since 2014. Lots of red flags.
Only teams he can beat is Arky, SECE, and OOC.

114-34 in 11 seasons + 2 games.
Sumlin is currently 43-18 in 4.75 seasons. If he coached 11 years at A&M, I guarantee he would never match Miles' record.

So you're saying Les extremely underperformed? Not sure if you're pro or anti Les anymore tbh.
Your main point was recruiting rankings, which didn't have a big enough gap to declare substantial. I'll give you 2016, but we still have to see how that pans out. I would love to discuss more in-depth transfers, injuries, etc, but I'm not familiar nor interested in knowing what happened to every LSU recruit. All I know is that they're stacked on offense and have underperformed every year. (Reuben Randall, Odell Beckham, Leonard Fournette, etc.)

Mediocre to me. Not many conference championships. Not sure what you deem mediocre.

And Les' record against Saban is what again?

And LSU can't beat Bama. So we would be back to square one.

Even if he did, it would still be crap. Only two conference championships in that long span.
I get y'all want to fire Sumlin, but Les ain't the guy. Y'all would just be stuck in a vicious circle of mediocrity.

Let's see how many conference championships your beloved R.C. Chokum had once we entered the Big 12.
What was that? 1 conference title in 7 seasons
Since Nick Saban began coaching Alabama, he has won the SEC West 5 times (soon to be 6) in 10 seasons. He has won the SEC 4 times (soon to be 5) over that span.
The only other coaches to win the SEC during that time?
Les Miles (2007,2011)
Urban Meyer (2008)
*Gene Chizik/Cam Newton (2010)
Gus Malzahn (2013)

the difference in talent is substantial. it's a huge part of our problem right now.

Did you graduate from A&M or are you a tshirt sip that's trolling?

Not sure where you're going with this, but I'll say it again, Les ain't the answer. Ask any lsu fan.
