First of all, had Chip Kelly coached at a SEC school instead of Oregon, none of us would even know his name today.
I'm glad you put this completely false statement first so that I could instantly discount to zero the value of everything else you had to say.
If Chip Kelly had coached in the SEC the only coach better than him would have been Saban and the only coach on par with him would haven been Urban Meyer, until he left.
The SEC doesn't have much coaching talent right now and hasn't for several years. What it has is beaucoup player talent.
If Chip isn't hired by A&M, he'll wind up at another SEC school, probably in the West, where he'll beat out asses for all eternity. It'll be like Sumlin's braindead decision to let Stidham go to Auburn, only worse, because Chip will be there, beating us, longer.

Didn't Kelly have a top 15 defense in 2010?

Yes, but then Cooter spews this drivel:
It seems to me that he really doesn't want Chip Kelly either because Chip Kelly probably wouldn't concede the defense as he suggested. I'm not totally "out" on Chip Kelly. What I'm out on is brining in Chip Kelly and telling him not to focus on defense.

We aren't going to be able to recruit the talent to put forth a consistently dominant defense because we are stuck recruiting from among Texas high schools, which right now only produce 7-on-7 pussies. With that in mind, the only way for us to win is to out-offense opponents. So I don't want a defensive coordinator or defensively minded coach to replace Sumlin. I want to go balls to the wall offense and that's Chip Kelly.

What an asinine straw man argument.
Where did I say hire Chip and tell him to just completely not care about defense at all? Of course he would try to field as good a defense as possible, but we all know he isn't a defense-focused or defense-first coach; he's an offensive guru.
My point, which I know you really understand but are being churlishly obtuse about, is that since no matter who we hire, nobody can turn our state's current talent into a consistently top-25 defense, we should be sure that at least one side of the ball is badass.

Yeah. And that's my recipe for success. Have a top 5 offense every year and once every 3 or 4 years when the stars align and you have a top 25 defense too, you play for a natty.
But we're not going to have a consistently top 25 D with the 7 on 7 focus of this state. So getting a defensive minded or focused coach is a waste.

Again, I disagree. We've go focus on defense to win in this league.

Outside of Auburn, that strategy hasn't worked out very well.
I like the direction we are going offensively (power spread + spread option being mixed in), but it's too late for Sumlin. He's done. He's going to need 10 wins to save his career.
